Hi,
Didn't know I was so far behind. 
I backed up the entire old directory structure by renaming with an "OLD" suffix before the dot.
I installed 0.6.8 onto the USB drive into its own new folder and then tried to follow instructions to copy the "settings" directory from old to new. I can't find this so-called settings directory.

p.s.: the new install is unicode. the old is ansi?

With ansi. That will tell you if it is just the programming language that is the issue.

I finally got it. Had to copy my dot DAT file into profiles directory. dot DAT was not in the same folder as in the new software. what a hassle...to hunt this down with a posting, some reading on installation, and then 15 minutes of trying copy/paste with reading...
