So i'm using the latest portable of firefox and im encuntering a couple of issues.
First and foremost i cane make use of the mouse middle button to open and close tabs, which seriously incovenient.
And secondly i want to restore settings of my previous installation(before i formatted my PC), that i backed up using MozBackup but it says that no Firefox app was found.
Could you plz shed some light?
why cant you use moz back on a normal installation get the profile from it then and put it in ur portable installation?
also why cant you use ur middle click?
how does it normally work and what have you done differently this time?
- With middle click i used to close open tabs and open links in new ones. Now i cant.
What i've done is formatted my PC and upon setting Windows XP i've only run the Portable Versions, havent installed any standalone version.
Also i installed newest drives for my logitech mouse from the web, didnt use the ones that come with the CD,but is that seriously gonna be the problem?
- As for the settings, after i restore them into an installed version, how do i apply them to the portable?
We use normal Firefox within it so nothing should be different. I personally use middle clicking within FFP all the time. It may be a driver problem, so try the ones from the CD instead.
Copy your profile into FirefoxPortable\Data\profile.
"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate."
do you still have problems or did you solve them?
Well i havent tried anything yet, cause i need to search for the mouse drivers cd.
As for the profile where is the original profile stored?Do i also need to copy the application data and local settings?
That one's easy. C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxx.default (where [user] is your username).
Copy everything within that folder into FirefoxPortable\Data\profile
"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate."
Ok and then everything within firefox will be tranferes into the portable firefox?Bookmarks, passwords, etc?
If i then uninstall firefox, will it all be good,or will it leave traces behind?Cause i want to have as little installed as possible this time, causei always end up formatting...
It will all be fine
The only problem that could occur is if an extension doesn't like running portably, in which case it's not gonna work even if you installed it on a vanilla FFP.

It is possible. Drivers can cause all sorts of problems. Not that it happens all the time, but when it does you can get some really odd behavior. I am not saying you shouldn't get drivers from the web. I am saying try the driver on the CD and see if that driver works better for your setup.
