Does anyone hate HP as much as I do?

K. I get a computer froma friend. Nice computer. Great computer 512 mg ram, 3.06 ghz processor, 160 hardrive- I set it up, get everything going,- BAM- the power core fails. Okay. Great, call hp, they send me a new one, overnight.

Install it- the instructions suck, but who cares? Its installed, it reuns fine.

At the end of the warranty period, it stops working. No customer care, pay us money to fix it (to the tune of 100 dollars.) Its summer, I'm not working can't afford it. Fine. Whatever.

Take it to SBM- I have them install a new hardrive and fix it. Turns out it was possibly my outlet on my surge strip. Get a new surge strips. Working great.

BAM- it cuts out again. Pull the board battery, keep it from power, put the battery in, start it up. Works.

My diagonsis is the powercore is fried for a second time.-Does that sound right?
Second thing- don't buy HP! Also, the printer that I got with it, also HP, isn't plug and ply. Its a year old and its not plug and play! My other printer is older and is plug and play.

Anyone else have bad experiances with certain products?

******
*EDIT*
******
I wish to apologize for my rant. It could be my power supply, it could be me. Whatever. I stand that I won't buy HP again (I'm building it myself, yeah!), but I shouldn't have ranted and raved here.- Now, go Corrupt a Wish!

Ouch! My iPod broke. One

Ouch!

My iPod broke. One month before the warranty expires the HD failed! They fixed it and sent it back. Pow. In a few months it broke the second time. No warranty. I'm getting a Zune when I get enough money.

Get Creative.

If I were you, I'd get a Creative mp3 player.

I've had my Zen Micro for 4 years now, and I've never had to replace anything, not even the battery (which is removable, by the way). It also came with a built-in FM tuner, and mic.

So?

You think they suck just because they give no warranty for the second one?

The hard drive failed just

The hard drive failed just about 4-5 months after the warranty expired. I never really like apple anyway. Now that Microsoft has a media player I'd get that over anything apple has to offer.

Not an Apple Fan

I used an iPod for a bit. But personally, I'd still pick the iPod over the Zune. MS just rushed into the Zune to try to beat out Apple.

I'm not saying get apple, or don't get MS, but the Creative is good.

well...

i love hp. i have never had a problem, + you probably should submit a recall case for the power unit failing twice, they will put out a recall so that kinda thing doesent happen again. if you tell me your computer model and the power unit model, i will submit it.

i have had an hp vectra vli8 mt and it is 8 years old and i have never had a problem with it, hp computers are extremely reliable.

another thing, you probably would have gotten ripped off! you re ordered a power unit that was probably anywhere from $30.00 to $119.00 (even thogh you got it under waranty) when you could have bought a $6.00 unit that would not fail right away. luckly you go the first one under warranty.

p.s. if you dont want the hp any more, i would be more than happy to take it off of your hands! (Please!! \(^^)/)

iPods that are 8GB and smaller use Flash. Anything larger use a HD. There is no 80GB flash drive at all planned or otherwise. They always go in powers of 2 in size. So there is 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, et infinitum. So to answer your question, the original ones all had HD's and the current ones that are larger than 8 or 16GB in size are all HD based.

No dice. I'm gonna start

No dice. I'm gonna start rebuilding it as the parts fail and scrape off the hp label.

Note that I have an older model that hasn't failed- yet.

Hmmm...

Interesting. I've never had any problems with HP, and they're just fine for printers (never owned one of their computers). But I absolutely never would by a Gateway anything!

How can you hate Dell?

I've never had a single problem with anything Dell. Ever.

Agreed. Dell > Gateway When

Agreed. Dell > Gateway

When I was a sys admin about 8 yrs ago, the Dells never had issues, but our Gateway laptops were dying every day. Those things were trash.

We have HPs now @ work and they've given us no issues for the last two years. They seem to run really great.

more like...

HP > dell & gateway

they both suck, dell is extremely slow and the only reason they are inexpensive is because everything stops working quite litteraly the day after your warentee is up. i have a dell and it just stopped working so i moved the power unit to a working computer to see if it was that and it worked, the new price of a motherboard for mine it $200+. and i dont care what dell says, you cant run WinXP off of 128 Mb ram! - but for a cheap computer they are fairly good

gateway just plain out sucks. period. my school has a bunch of gateways and you cant get them to do anything exept cook your popcorn when they meltdown.

Hmmm..... home built....

Overall price comparison between home built / brand name?

I have Gateway at work (they're all gateway; they've always been gateway) and they get the job done. My previous laptop, my current desktop and my parent's desktop are HP, I've never had a problem (except for the laptop's battery). My current laptop's Dell, so far no issues. The only thing is getting my installation of ubuntu running correctly and figuring out how to have Media Direct play ogg.

Price comparison, well over

Price comparison, well over here in NZ its:
Low spec stuff (introductory dell ones) are cheaper brand named.
Anything above the first few dell or whatever offers is cheaper home built, and you dont get all the crap loaded onto it.

If you have the case, and all the peripherals, upgrading the cpu + motherboard + gfx card + hard drive is the way to go as far as a new computer is concerned.

For laptops, ive found HP to be good. From using other peoples Toshibas, well if you get one, format it straight away, there are at least 20 autostarting things of all kinds, and the wireless configuration using the built in toshiba one (forced to) is rubbish. This really bogs down the ram + cpu at times, decreasing battery life.

price difference

between a home built that is any good and a brnd computer isnt that much. the cheapedt brand name comp i could fine was $299.00 and to build a computer would cost about that.

BUT, home builts are way better because: no warantee, you break it YOU can fix it, you know more than any computer company, you wont be redirected to india or iraq because you wont have to call fo rcustomer service, parts are most likely cheap, you can actualy customize it with what you ACTUALLY want and you can choose what operating system you want. and the list goes on but i doubt anyone would read it.

gateway and emachines

is the worst combo on the face of the planet
gateway's natural crappiness
combined with the cheapness of emachines = total piece of crap not worthy of being dropped out a third story window

well,

seeming how we are now going into the laptop wars here, i might as well vouch for the thinkpad. the ibm ones are HEAPS better then the lenovo ones. a friend's lenovo thinkpad crashed a heap, but then my thinkpad 365X didnt crash at all. and its running windows 3.11. for workgroups.

I don't recommend the larger HP laptops

Mainly because I know of a few people that have the larger hp laptops. The main problem is although they have a lot of power they have very little cooling. So they get so hot they just shut off and die. Even if you have one of those cooling trays you can put under your laptop and power by usb.

Sorta

All that RAM and other stuff takes up a lot of electricity, well we know electricity creates heat. To make it worse all that stuff is in there really really tight so there is much air in there to cool it down. Then top of the fact that it only has to super tiny fans it can't handle the heat. So it's not really the fact that it's the features it has all the stuff a normal laptop it's just too powerful packed to tight. If you dissect the larger HP laptops you'll find it really hard to move around in.

There is nothing wrong with the power unit.

One you don't need a bigger power unit. And second it's a laptop you can't get a bigger case start reading the WHOLE POSTS. And third because it's a laptop that is so full you can't fit bigger fans in it.
