FileZilla Portable 3.0.6 Pre-Release 1

I've posted a pre-release of FileZilla Portable 3.0.6 for people to test out before a general release. FileZilla 3 has several changes over version 2, the biggest of which being that the settings files are now incompatible and version 3 can't update a version 2 settings file. The launcher will automatically back up the settings file and let the user know how to import the old settings file into the new version of FileZilla. So, I'm looking for some feedback on that.

I'm also experimenting with a non-fading splash screen. It doesn't fade in or out (others currently fade in only). Just trying to get a feel from folks whether or not it feels faster without the fade.

(may take a few minutes to hit the download servers)

So, please give it a try and post your thoughts.

Thanks,
John

Sweet!

It pays to stay up 'till 3:30. Smile

Edit:

Okay, the splash screen actually seems alright without a fade even though I didn't think it would. On an update install, I got the settings notice, however I think there should be a mention in the help.html too incase users forget what to do. Yes, my old settings we backed up by the way.

P.S. The link the the readme in the help.html is incorrect, and the readme shows support for two directory setups which doesn't seem to be the case. Also, is there a new environment variable instead of using that switch? As well, you may want to change the link in the help.html from http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/ to http://filezilla-project.org/ since it's now just a re-direct.

Update

I'll update those links and such. I'll add in the upgrade to the help online as well. I'll post it as part of the release.

It's now using a new method. FZ3 dropped the command line switch. But you can use a default xml file in the FZ directory that has an environment variable for the default settings directory. I have that included and the launcher just defines it.

worked good

I liked the "quickness" of the splash. It seems to be on the screen for a shorter amount of time which I like. "No fade" looks better to me too.

Imported setting without a hitch so everything went well.
