Hi,
I have installed a portable app (cdexPortable) by pasting it in the portableapps directory.
The problem is that the menu displays the content of the "description" property of this file which is: "version française" (french version) Not very helpful!
Is there a way either to change this property (not possible from windows explorer) or to override it (by an .ini file for example)?
By the way, it is also important to have a way of changing apps names in the menu: for example for different versions of the same app (Firefox 2 versus Firefox3: you can install them in seperate folder, but they have the same name in the menu).
Thanks for your answers.
François
and welcome here.
Showing the wrong appname might be a problem with the french localisation, so if You take the one from the betaforum https://portableapps.com/node/11388 and change the locale in options (after You´ve rightclick downloaded and put the langfile http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/lang/cdex_v1.70/french.cdex.lang into ..../App/CDex/lang ) You should succeed.
Downloading a mod can help with renaming apps and paths https://portableapps.com/node/8569?page=1#comment-53345
or at last stay with Your PAM and wait for next release..
PS: Yours is one of the most wanted FAQ, so using the tiny search button sometimes You´d be faster in getting the right answers. But I know language can be so distinct.. and sometimes one must know the hidden paths http://cubegames.net/development/faq
So, once again, welcome here

I want to do the same thing. Sometimes when I take a non-portable app and put it on to my flashdrive, a name pops up that is no help at all, like "Macromedia flash projector 2008" for the Super Mario 64 Level editor "Toad' Tool 64." I'd like to edit it to say Toad's Tool. And not just for my flashdrive, I mean for when I run it off ANY flashdrive. Also, I noticed that what apperars at the top of the application window, and on the icon on the toolbar, is usually what shows up in portable apps.

as described here https://portableapps.com/node/7694#comment-63831 for opera portable, You can modify the appearance with res hacker and simply rename the .exe as You like (I use it for opera@usb and for portable winrar to hide the .exe I don´t want to appear in the menu).
