Download:
Download Xenon File Manager Portable 1.3.9.1 Beta
(MD5: 016475ebde45015946dca2ab310b66cf | 1.8MB)
Note: You will need to extract to X:\PortableApps\XenonPortable not X:\PortableApps
Notes:
1.3.9.1 Beta:
- Copy, Move, and Delete windows now have cancel buttons.
- Bookmarks updated, Captions now supported.
1.3.9.0 Beta:
- initial release
The installer seems corrupt, 7z SFX crashes each time I double click the file. If I use 7zip and just use the extract function, it works, but the SFX itself seems broken.
Edit: The app itself works great, there is a .svn folder left behind in "Xenon\App\xenon\toolbar\MI3-Crystal"

OK, I'll try to get a working sfx later.

I was just thinking about this today and yesterday while going through and organizing some files. Sweetness.
Note: Well Xenon should be stable shouldn't it? *patrick claps for his pun*
Some people easily amuse themselves....;)

It works fine, tough the delete prompt isn't translated. And the already known bug of the installer. I like the copy/cut/delete images (if I had a big file to move...)
I found these strings untranslated, by the way (minor things):
Blue is everything.
Xenon made the Front Page of Wikipedia!
Horray. LOL!

I just wanted to suggest some minor features that would be nice, the cancel one is the most important to me.

I got bored tonight, so I stayed up late and made a Crystal icon set to show off my hardcore Paint.NET skills.
Download Crystal Toolbar Icons
Preview Crystal Toolbar Theme
P.S., that's only an Ubuntu theme, not Linux.
If anyone wants to re-do them, don't be shy.
strange behaviour:
- download newest version
- install it
- open it
- click on network drive
- open dialog get visible
- click cancel
- error message occures : "Datei kann nicht kopiert werden: Die Quelldatei oder der Quelldatenträger kann nicht gelesen werden." e.g. Can't copy file: can't read source file or volume
windows xp german
Yeah, It doesn't work with network drives.
cowsay Moo
cowthink 'Dude, why are you staring at me.'
so the tool is not handy for people using network drives?
i will check what will happen on virtual drives.
OK! 1.3.9.1 Beta is out. I actually managed to get the copy/move/delete windows to have a working cancel button!

Thanks so much! I'll test it out for sure.
It is great, and no, I don't any translation correction to say (once in a lifetime I didn't screwed up ).
Seems stable working on Windows Vista HP pt-PT without SP1 yet (waiting for pt-PT release without being RFM ).
Also, a feature I think it would be nice: support for opening shortcuts on Xenon instead of Windows Explorer (I though of making an association but that would open on another window).
Blue is everything.
Not a bad idea. I just added it to the source. It only took 4 lines of code.

I've created this image in gimp and could create an icon from it that contains all the required bit depths and sizes.
Link
Let me hear what you think. It's just a suggestion.

Not bad. The thing is that Xe should be purple. (That is what the element Xenon looks like in a neon sign.) It doesn't look like it would look very good in 16x16.

AWSOME work i like this Icon, better than my! i know my version had the wrong proportion
Hell was full, so I came back!!!
Sorry for my lousy English!!!
Can anyone check the latest package for paf compatibility (except installer)? Thanks.

A couple issues:

cowsay Moo
cowthink 'Dude, why are you staring at me.'
1. you could make your own, it's not really big issue though
2. no problem
3. Why would the launcher need to extract it to a temporary directory? Does AutoIt not allow you to compile the image into the exe? This is how it is done with NSIS. I'm not sure if it's an issue or not, I understand your point of keeping it in Data.
4. Ok
The developer formerly known as ZGitRDun8705
3. It is stored in the executable, but it must be extracted to a folder before it can be used.
cowsay Moo
cowthink 'Dude, why are you staring at me.'
Yea, I believe that's what NSIS does, too.
Hmm...where does NSIS extract it to, i never noticed this.
The developer formerly known as ZGitRDun8705
Temp I believe, or at least I thought. I'm probably wrong, but I thought it had to extract its resources.
I've changed some things in the icon, resized it to the different sizes and optimized it.
Then I created one single .ico file containing all of them.
It can be downloaded from here.
(There's also a zipped version of a modified big one). Tell me what you think.

Perfect. That is awesome!

I only have one request. I don't know how easy this would be, but what about adding a tabbed layout view. That way you could open several different folders in the same window. That is the only reason I still use ExplorerXP.
I also found a little bug. If I already have Portable Firefox open and go to the help, a dialog box pops up that says I need to close firefox before another instance of firefox can be opened. Shouldn't the help just open in another tab in firefox?
Don't worry. That is planned for the next (big) version (1.5).
cowsay Moo
cowthink 'Dude, why are you staring at me.'
The tabs or the bug?
Tabs. Xenon just opens the program you have associated with for HTML files. If you have a local firefox browser open it will not be able to open the file.
cowsay Moo
cowthink 'Dude, why are you staring at me.'
I had portable firefox open and internet explorer closed at the time. The default for HTML files is internet explorer, but it still tried to open the help with portable firefox. If I open any HTML file on my computer it defaults to IE. Maybe something else is going on.
1.4 and it seems like the bug is fixed.

Just so everybody knows I have released version 1.4.

I'm not gonna request anymore features, only point out some bugs now as I really want this one to go public here. These might have been mentioned before, I didn't read the whole thread.
Here's the bugs I'm noticing.
I think those are the only problems I had. It's looking awesome!
1. Yeah, it's by design.
2. I hate it when I forget to remove debugging messages.
3. Not a bad idea.
4. See 1
5. I can't reproduce this.
cowsay Moo
cowthink 'Dude, why are you staring at me.'
Its nice. I have found this bug:
I can't find Patrick's 5th Bug (lets call it that way and mine is José's Bug)
Blue is everything.
I never tried it before but now I gave it a shot and its simply amazing. I really like it. It was a little slow in displaying the folder content but I have to use it more to really compare this. Other than that I have some suggestions:
Great work.
I just realized that I still have to try Partick´s Icons and the 1.4 version. I will!
BTW I like your "mirroring system" but on you homepage, the main xenon window is moved to the right. Shouldn't it stay in its white frame?
EDIT
It really is slow displaying folders like Computer.
I think the splash screen fades too slowly. Could be faster.
Where am I supposed to put Patricks icons so I can choose them in the menu without overwriting the original ones?
Sorry for all the (noob-)questions...
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
Lol, noob for sure.
The icons go it:
XenonPortable\App\xenon\toolbar
Show .. show's a folder named '..' which you click on to go up a directory.
Patrick. Haven't felt so noobish in quite some time

Check your mail. I think I accidentally replied from a different address.
when I get home. Just trying to get LBreakout done before.

navigation at the left side of the help file isn't working.
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
Is JS enabled.
cowsay Moo
cowthink 'Dude, why are you staring at me.'
yes. But I have to retry at home. Maybe its not installed...
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
It seems incompatible with Firefox.
Why not use
target="framename"
?I might do that for you. And it should work without JavaScript too.
EDIT: I have the files needed to fix the navigation.
They are avaliable as 'helpnavfix.zip' here.

Hmm. I guess it is not. I had tested it before and it worked...
cowsay Moo
cowthink 'Dude, why are you staring at me.'
Version 1.4 passes my tests. It works perfectly, with only one complaint. I'm on a 1440 by 990 pixel screen, and the copy, paste, delete, etc screens are rather large. Other than that, just perfect.
Just a comment: Is there a reason that you have not used an NSIS installer? If you want, I can make you one.

There is a reason, licensing. Xenon is MIT, PAI is GPL. Even though MIT is compatible with GPL that would throw the license off.
cowsay Moo
cowthink 'Dude, why are you staring at me.'
Okay. Thanks, that's kind of been a burning question in my mind for a while.
