Now has a much better icon than the previous one.
Scribus Portable is the popular Scribus desktop publishing application in PortableApps.com format. Scribus is an open-source program that brings professional page layout to Linux/Unix, MacOS X, OS/2 and Windows desktops with a combination of "press-ready" output and new approaches to page layout. Plus, it leaves no personal information behind on the machine you run it on, so you can publish files wherever you go.

It works .... what is new (beside Icon-stuff) ?
Nothing new other than the icon

What a waste of bandwidth.
I downloaded PR2 version, installed it, and attempted to launch application from portable apps menu. But it won't launch for me. I'm going to delete, redownload and try again.

I'm unable to get a Windows 2000 computer to test on, but I'll take your word for it. I'll copy it across and it should be in the next pre-release.

looking forward to something official

Cool - been using the "Portable Scribus" version for a while. Glad to see the the PAF preview version is a smaller download. Thanks for the work on it.
Hi,
installed Scribus Portable 1.2.2.9 Pre-release 2, but Avast found a trojan in one file. Please check this, thank you.
Edit: 1.2.2.9 PRERELEASE2 ??? You meant Version 1.3.3.9 PRERELEASE2 - right?
I checked my installation of Scribus (made with the same Version of the Installer) with ClamWin and AntiVir, and there are no problems found - no Viruses, Trojans, or any other malware detected,...
So: Don't Panic, it seems to be a false alarm of your Virus scanner.
in which file of your Scribus Portable has Avast found the Trojan?
By the way, i made a fresh download of 1.3.3.9 PRERELEASE 2 and scaned it with ClamWin and there was nothing found in it, too.
Don't know whether it's a false alarm but Avast 4.8 gives Trojan Alarm (Win32:Agent-KGH [Trj])!!! So what could it be, do you think, is it really a virus or false alarm??
Hello World!
I installed the above 1.3.3.9 Pre-release 2 then I went into :\PortableApps\ScribusPortable\App\Scribus and deleted all the contents in that folder, then I copied all the contents in the C:\Program Files\Scribus 1.3.4 folder into :\PortableApps\ScribusPortable\App\Scribus. So far it's working
I get the following message when scanning with ClamWin:
F:\PortableScribus1-3-3-12English.zip: W32.Autoit.Obfus-1 FOUND

Can someone clarify if this is a real virus
Thanks
There are many posts regarding this issue. Try the search button top right corner and enter false positives. You should be able to find a more qualified answer there,
but the most common reply, is to scan the questionable app with some type of online scanners such as http://virusscan.jotti.org/ or http://www.virustotal.com/.
F:\PortableScribus1-3-3-12English.zip: W32.Autoit.Obfus-1 FOUND
Why are you asking here at PortableApps.com and not at the place you downloaded your file from?
As you see, the file is not from PortableApps.com. Consequently nobody here can tell you if there's a virus in your file.
Autoit is known to be used also by people producing malware to obfuscate their work, thus some virus scanners mark every autoit file as infected. Compare the results of an online test on sites like www.virustotal.com to decide whether it's infected or not.
And welcome to PortableApps.com
So if there is no problem with it, why is it not released yet?
The latest version of Scribus is 1.3.3.13.
You can get a portable version of 1.3.3.12 from here
http://www.quate.net/newsnet/read/31
and a portable version of 1.3.3.13 from here.

OK, it's not the beloved paf.exe format, but it works OK.
I don't think this app will be picked up here again, so we have to be content with these other sources.
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
I am just a user and I express my opinion from the user point of view:
I compared the paf.exe version and for example the winpenpack version of other apps.
paf.exe is much quicker, smaller and reliable.
so why abandon this wonderful app?
In order for one of these apps to be developed, a developer needs to adopt it and work on it.
The original developer has stopped working on it for some reason, and no other developer has come forward to champion it.
I agree, it's a wonderful app, but it's been 2 years since anyone has really touched it here, so I stopped asking.
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
An we want it now
Put the pitchfork and flame torches down I'm joking.
This is just another vote of interest in Scribus portable to assist any potential developers in gauging the interest in this app.

I am tired of fixing someone's computer. I am trying to convince her to switch entirely to PA. Scribus is one thing she uses. I almost have her using PA's Abiword, GIMP, and Firefox, this would only help my cause.
In short: I would feel a lot better and you would be saving me from a lot of trouble if this became a full fledged PA release.
Limits are for people with no imagination.
Not exactly in the Portable Apps format, but it is portable, and you just need to unzip it to its own folder under the PortableApps folder.
Don't worry, while the page is in Italian, the app is in English.

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
win pen pack is not the same quality as portable apps
and
now that also Inkscape is coming as a portable app
and GIMP is already there
you need only Scribus to have a complete graphics suite!
Ryan,
Can I take this over from you?
[EDIT] As a result of reading this, I've decided to take over portablization of Scribus. Stay tuned for more news soon.
Scribus is a strange one, there seems to be some reluctance to bring it into the PA.c stable. I think because it's a QT app or something, I don't recall. Plus, somebody on quate.net is it? Has a portable version although last time I checked it hadn't been updated in ages.
It'd be great if you could do this, I think Scribus is great, so much better than trying to do flashy stuff in a word processor (which is not what a word processor is meant for)
Good luck!
We'll stay tuned. I love this program.
