I was updating from vista, i got a scared when firefox poped-up wthout extensions, it execs the resident firefox

On one of my machines I've noticed that when I update Portable Firefox using the built in Firefox update... I lose my profile and all of the addons are lost. Yet on my other PC I retain everything if I do a firefox update. I know that a solution is to simply overwrite the files with the Portable Apps version of the update, but I still wonder why it does that. This has nothing to do with a virus. PortableApps.com is always clean.

You should NEVER update Firefox Portable with the built in firefox updater. It WILL break things, it sets all of the system's registry keys for firefox to point to the portable version, and can cause corrupted profiles.

1. This is a known issue and stickied in the Firefox Portable Support Forum
2. All support issues go in the forums not as comments on a news story

Copy folder \Data\profile from old Portable to new one to keep addons and so on.
