I installed a fresh copy of AbiWord 2.6 (english only version) onto my desktop. I opened it and the menu is english cause thats the only language it has. But if I write something, as soon as I hit "Enter", a window pops up and says: "Could nor load the dictionary for the German (Switzerland) [de-CH] language." I use Win XP in german (Switzerland).
The same happens if I install the full version. Then the menu is in german but the popup appears anyhow.
I don't know if thats a bug in AbiWord itself but I guess its something with the way the Portable version handles the language.

Another thing:
If I have the swiss dictionary installed but I want to set the language of a word, Abiword crashes and the Windows-"...needs to close"-message pops up and it closes. I guess this one is a problem within Abiword.

It's not a bug... not entirely. Setting it to a language without a check mark next to it fails because the language isn't installed. You need to install the language pack first.
It works on the portable version as well. Just copying the hash file from the dictionary directory of a local install and I'm able to set it there, too.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
The problem is that I didn't set any language. I just used the standard english and expected that AbiWord would use the english dictionary. But somehow it wanted to use the swiss one (which is the language of the PC) instead and gave an error because naturally the swiss one isn't installed. I think it should use the english one till I set it differently. maybe its not a big problem as I guess not many people use it in english on a PC with a different language but I wanted to mention it anyhow.
I think it is a problem with the language not being set correctly as if I go to tools-preferences, no language is set. The box is empty until i click on it and select "English".
