Disk Cleaner is a free open source tool to quickly and easily clean your hard disk from temporary files like those in the system temporary folder, the Internet Explorer Cache and Cookies folder, and the Recycle Bin.

this isn't as good as ccleaner or anything but it's the best open source temp cleaner.
Changes:
Dev Test 3: changed icon to the better one Zach made
Dev Test 2: changed ugly icon with less ugly icon based on image from their website
Disk Cleaner Portable 1.5.7 Development Test 3 550 KB
I saw this on webi.org a while back, tried it out and it looked neat.
I'll try this out when I get a chance.
But can we do something about the icon? Maybe somebody with some graphics skills can make a better one?
Release Team Member
yeah, i can make a better icon. i'm actually better with graphics than i am at programming. Even when i make a better icon though, the program itself is still ugly
But an better icon will help. I'm not even sure what this one supposed to be. A funnel?
Release Team Member
i didn't really want to make a purple funnel from scratch so i took this image from their website, edited out the text and made a new less ugly icon. if someone's awesome at making icons, i'm sure they could still make a better one.
Finally got around to that new icon...I found a funnel that i was able to extract from Everaldo's 256x256 set (most of the set is corrupted images). I added the purple overlay to the funnel, and here is my result.

thanks zach! i'll switch to your icon when i get a chance
sounds good. i didn't do much with this one though...just rotated the original, made a copy of the original and filled it with solid purple, then set it to Overlay mode lol...oh and i added a drop shadow

I like DiskCleaner, especially the plug-in system that I find to be a relatively simple way to allow custom cleaning options. I know this app will be compared to Ccleaner which I had previously used quite a bit. Ccleaner does have a few more options than this app but I like that Diskcleaner does just one thing. I wonder if there are other open-source apps that cover the uninstall and registry-cleaning aspects that Ccleaner includes.
there aren't any uninstall or registry cleaning open source apps that i've ever found. i like disk cleaner but it desperately needs a visual makeover if it wants to gain any popularity.
*tinker* tested
Works great!
I've tested it on and off in windows vista ultimate sp1 but never had the chance to post it until now.
It works well, and leaves nothing obvious behind.
Will test and post RegShot result

Is this still being actively developed? If so, is another DevTest coming, or is it ready for a beta? I like it.

You may think it's funny,
but it'snot.
Been using this for some time now without issue. Also app has been updated a few times since this release. Could anyone pick it up?

Yes, this is a good window cleaner, been using it for ages too, although there's a (minor) bug in this launcher (try disabling the splash with the INI). I can pick it up if there are no objections.
Are you interested in an updated package of the stable 1.5.7 or the newer 1.6.1273 (RC2)? I haven't tried the latest TBH, is it working OK?
I think to ensure the greatest possible chance of it going official it would be best to use the current stable version. Shouldn't be too long before 1.6.xx goes stable but till then play it safe.

Hey Prapper
I know you've got a massive portfolio of apps as it is but want to know if your still planning on deving this?
I think in a couple more months or sooner I'll have to start learning to do it myself.... eventually

I did 1.6.1353 a few weeks ago (on XP) and it messed up my Recycle Bin. Last time I checked, the new one was recommended for XP/Vista/7 (when it was in beta) but they've split them up again. I could bundle both and check for OS, what do you reckon?
I use 1.5.7 every day and it's great. I see 1.7 RC1 is out now so I'll take another look. Don't let me steal your first project though
Your bundled idea sounds pretty good. Then when 1.7 comes out hopefully that fixes the recycle bin issue. Have you let the Dev know about the problem?
I don't think I'd want to start with something that plays with the registry as much as Disk cleaner for my first project.
I'll probably go with something easier like Battle For Wesnoth. As I know it doesn't touch the registry it'll be a good start as I'll just need to learn to back up settings into the Data folder.

All right, I registered just to make a comment here
First and foremost: what can I (the author) do to get the current Disk Cleaner accepted as portable? When '-p' is specified on the command line (which stands for portable), Disk Cleaner saves its settings to the application folder. Otherwise, it saves them to the users Application Data folder (non-portable, but Vista/7 compliant, therefore).
Some random comments:
- Yes, the icon is ugly. I'm no graphics artist. I tried again with the rewrite but it's still, well, ugly Any graphics artist out there may contribute a better one
- No, I have never heard about any trouble regarding the recycle bin. Works for me every time but any feedback on the issue is welcome.
- The XP and Vista/7 installers were split again, since many plug-ins available for XP don't run or are useless on Vista/7. Therefore, XP users are possibly better off with the old installer. The Vista/7 application should work just fine on XP though.
Cheers,
Robert
and welcome to PortableApps.com.
This topic is actually outdated and there's a new thread related to the current version of Disk Cleaner here where I have replied to your post.
There is new Disk Cleaner Version 1.8.1795 (RC4) came out.
Can some one make it portable?
RC means release candidate which means it is not ready for production use.
