I'm sorry I found out that the key-protection-switch for the mp3-player is also a write-protection-switch. After switching to unlock everything works o.k.

portable apps beta 5?
when does the next release come out. when i first downloaded the new version it showed a picture with a program with eject script. i have had to copy the eject program into portable apps directory. when will the version come out that actually has an eject button. it would make everything much easier

Beta 4
As this is a Beta (been that way for a while it seems i made a backup of my old menu directory, simple copy paste.
This old menu shows up in the Menu App list, should there be a way to ignore items in 'Copy of' folders or am i just being picky?

aMSN Portable?
In the image of the menu, there is an app on the menu called aMSN portable. What is that, and how come it isn't on portableapps? Also, a saw NVU portable too.

Suggestions
A few suggestions for next release
Draggable - Would like right click ability to lock or unlock the menu - similar to Windows "Lock the taskbar"
Wallpaper Swapper-Would like ability to apply either centered, tiled, or stretched.
PortableAppsMenu.ini-Would like to see it populated with default options to make it easier to configure
Rest of features are really great. Very impressed.

Wallpaper...
I Hate changing of aspect ratio on wallpapers [you know, like when a sexy baywatch becomes a whale in a red net, or your Bugatti Veyron turns into a VolksWagen bug] so...
I Would like ability to applythe wallpaper, either centered, tiled, or stretched [configured at PortableAppsMenu.ini?].

Recommend minor change in arguments when opening Explorer
In the spirit of keeping the portable applications disconnected from the rest of the machine, I suggest using the "/root" flag when running explorer.
A few examples:
Explorer /root,"C:\documents and Settings\"
Explorer /root,"%temp%"
Explorer /root,"%windir%"
Explorer /root,\

things i think the menu needs...
- multiple theme switching! i am tiered of hearing that my ide to have multiple theme switching in the menu is not good. i for one am sick and tiered of switching out folders whenever i want a new look! it should be like a pop down menu or something that would switch the theme after you selected it.
- just a little thing, for more customizeability when creating themes, the ability to use a bigger "drive_space_slider" picture would be nice. for one i would like the ability to mimic things like vista's progress bar better but the image that the menu uses is two small to put anything but a shiny looking green bar on the screen. i need room to get the little white thingies on the side. like this.
- this is just a thought and aimed mostly at john, but the ability to integrate my theming format into the menu. (john, if you email me i will be able to explain everything about the theming option.) this request is less of a concern than the above two because i am going to try to integrate this new format into the menu first so i will update you guys as i go along

Disclaimer:
Love John's work, yes he works hard, look at all the other apps released, I have no idea about what other factors might be involved...
BUT to me, the release delays with this are a complete and total mystery.
It's like it dropped into a strange black hole, from which it can never escape, and into which an infinite number of comments are disappearing.
You might want to check out some of the mods out there.

Suggestion
Just an idea, what if there was an option to display a small image on the desktop that has the same functions as the tray icon (similar to U3 drives)? It could even be the picture you use on the corner of the menu.
I have used PAM on computers with almost zero rights which includes hiding the tray icons, so once I start an app, I have to use task manager to close the menu. I know that there is an option to keep the menu from disappearing, but I would like to open and close the menu like normal.

yeah, "IF" version 1.1 ever comes out that is..
We've been waiting over a year now, and beta 4 has been out, what, 9 months?
I don't want to rush the developers or anything, but who cares about multiple languages, I don't see why those just couldn't be added as separate modules later. Would just make the program bigger then it has to be as it is.
I'm happy with 1.0, but some of the features promised for 1.1 are nice.
I'd like to see, if nothing else, a way to automatically launch apps upon
insertion of the USB drive, because I use portableapps alot for school and stuff.

This app lets you create small menus with relative shortcuts to almost anything.
You can size then as small as a single buttons to as large as the desktop.
So use it to make a shortcut to ..\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe
It will float on your desktop (you can even tell it to be always on top), and it will function just like the tray icon.

Great idea!
It took a little tweaking, but now a small toolbox with just the PortableApps icon shows up on the desktop. I first thought that it would start multiple instances of the menu, but I found out that beta 4 would not allow that. Thanks solanus!

You could use my menu which has the option of opening and closing from a "start button" as well as the tray icon.

How to install?
I'm using PortableApps.com Platform 1.0 and would like to try version 1.1 (though it's Beta).
Could I install it over 1.0 or instead of it? Should I delete anything before the installation of 1.1?
