Hi there.
i use apps from PortableApps.com for a long time now.
and i find myself, monthly or something close to that, looking for all the apps to check out new versions of it.
this is not easy (well it's not too complex either, but could be better)
so here is what i was thinking.
during the unzip of the app, you maybe could write somewhere the version of the app (ex: Pidgin\2.4.1.ver)
then the StartPortableApps.exe could read this on the start up, and check on the website for new versions.
is this too far complex than it seems?
just does not make sense?
congrats for the excellent site, products and concept.
this has proved to me that is a far better solution than having stuff installed on the machine.
best regards,
JP
The good news is that the devs are way ahead of you![Smile](https://portableapps.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)
The versioning data is stored in AppNamePortable/App/AppInfo/appinfo.ini already, and the updater, which reads the versions of your installed apps and checks for updates is being developed here.
It is in late alpha now, bordering on beta, but is already basically feature complete and a lot of people are using it to do their updating.
excellent.
because searching for updates was really getting on my nerves![Smile](https://portableapps.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)
having the latest version is not life critical, but we never know when we are stuck to a problem just because we have an outdated version.
best regards
