So I know that at least one chat program (digsby) that is already supporting the new facebook chat. Does anyone know if pidgin is planning to support it any time soon? Or if the chat has simply started supporting Jabber or something like it and pidgin is already compatible? Finally, if pidgin ends up adding support for the chat sometime soon, will it require another upgrade for our portable version?
And yeah. Sorry for all of the questions, but I can't find this info anywhere else!
For future, this is a question to ask the Pidgin developers, as it's no related to Pidgin Portable really. The Pidgin FAQ states there won't be support yet, as the specifications aren't released yet, however, there's a project on SourceForge for a plugin but they haven't made any release, and a couple other individuals are analyzing how it works too.
but I couldn't find any information on it at the time. Thanks so much!
I know this is old. But if you check the FAQ on FB. Their protocol hasn't been released yet to be used outside their systems.
Digsby and Adium have still managed to examine and integrate it.
Beats me...*shrugs*
I found a facebook chat plugin on google code that works great. It even tells you how to install it with Pidgin portable. The link is http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-facebookchat/ All you need to download is the .dll file and the zip folder with all the icons.
Hope this helps!

Facebook and Skype have teamed up and you can now log in to Facebook using the Skype client (if you have it installed to PortableApps). You can using Skype to either IM people on Facebook, OR video chat with them if both you and the person you want to chat with has a web camera to use.
