Problems with OOo Portable 2.4

Great Work! The PAM-Mod R31 have many good features, but OpenOffice.Org Base Portable is not displayed in the menu. NeoRame, please, can you check, why the application doesn't appear in the list of apps?

Sorry for my bad english. ^^°

Still Happening

I'm noticing that Openoffice.org Base still isn't showing up in R34. I know it's not a big deal because most hide it anyways, but I wonder why it isn't even showing at all.

great job, i absolutely love

great job, i absolutely love the mod! the only things that i was disappointed with is the lost autoplay feature at startup, and i'm also having problems with the wallpaper swap, which worked fine with the regular portableapps program. can you help me out? thanks

give more information on your problems

@ one: look for the (sometimes hidden ) autorun.ini file and change the path to your mod
@ two the wallpaper has to be put into the ../PortableAppsMenu(mod)/Data folder and called like the theme you use, eg MyThemewallpaper.bmp. So, if you load the theme you´ll have the fitting wallpaper. If you have only one wallpaper for all themes you can name it mywallpaper.bmp

Development Credit

You need to change the development credit.
I didn't develop this MOD.
Actually John development it as it is a MOD of the original.
Then I believe netroid9 modified it, then XrXca picked up where netroid9 left off.
Not 100% sure.
All I did was to fix a display issue when switching to themes that were wider than the original theme background.

Yeah, but....

I think there's no need to change. (Almost) Everybody knows it's a further development of the PA Menu, that's typical for a Mod ;-). But your fixing was a minor step to dev themes; it corrects a big limitation.

Now I'm waiting for someone who's fixing these points:
1 - top on my wishlist - addind an onclick=loadtheme command with an argument to load a special theme (so we can dev. themes in 2 sizes for diff. screen resolutions, like I tried with 2click https://portableapps.com/node/11961 )
2 - A path-to-app command with the possibility to add arguments, for example to open my music-folder with a player or documents with an alternative explorer.
3 - The possibility to change the app-list width (sometimes it looks smarter when it's smaller than 240px)
The mods are necessary to find out whats really helpful. That can't be done with official versions published in an interval of one year.
I'm missing the mod devellopment, you see?

App Button Size

The button size was a quick fix, here it is.
PortableApps Menu MOD 32 (Mod R32)
I added Height, Width, and Font Size.
Look at the PTC Compact Custom Theme.

I'll see what I can do for the open folder with app option, my menu has this option but the R3x code for selecting the path to the folders is different and I don't like the prompt used so I will have to change it. This will have to wait a while as I am getting married on Sunday then going on my honeymoon on the 17th and still working on my Theme Designer.

The custom theme button I don't understand, just click on the options button then click on the theme to switch, its still only 2 clicks.

The issue is that the theme "appears" to be able to expand and contract by switching between a short and a tall theme. Sure, people could swap to a new theme on their own, but he is trying to satisfy people who want a resizeable menu.

Yes!

Yes, you got it!
I think it's a good thing to connect 2 similar themes (small and big) for the user with only one click on a custom button.

Why not more choices?

I think it is a pretty neat trick (until we see REAL resizing). Why is that feature available on only one theme?

Another neat trick I'd like to see is the ability to launch a program of your choice by clicking on the big "primary" icons. For instance, backup could launch Toucan, or search could launch your own choice of file manager instead of Windows Exploder. Has anybody tried something like that?

SmithTech Portable Menu

My menu has this option for the folder buttons.
You could open the documents folder with xplorer2 or the pictures folder with irfanview etc. I don't think I added this functionality to the backup or search buttons though. I will add it when I have time.
Additionally I will add it to the R3x MOD once I have time to look through the code.

Excellent!

That's great!

Has anybody made a list or table of the different features available from the different mods? Something like:

Across the top:
PAM Basic
PAM 1.1
Pam w/catMod
R31 Mod
Geek
SmithTech

Down the side:
Folders/Categories
Manual Sorting
Eject Button
Menu Drag
Rename Items
Exclude EXEs
etc, etc

(I would have used a table if I could have...)

Done

This one was quick and easy as well.
Mod R33
Check the PTC Big and PTC Small themes.
You may want to make different themes if your going to host the zip.

Way cool...

That's really nice!

The one click swaps to the other theme, right?

Maybe the graphic could be like a windows minimize/maximize button, situated down near the Eject and Quit buttons?

Hey! That´s great !

At last
-a switch custom button
for different size
plain and advanced features
my two faves
two different wallpapers keeping the same PAM theme look
changing the PathToApp for a custom button and keeping the same theme
....
a small step in coding, but a GIANT leap for theming Wink

This one´s for Mr.Elchbau/Neorame

He just suggests to repack the Mod with some themes demonstrating the new features before posting it on PTC.

Sure

Sure you can host it. Its open source you can do what you want with it Wink
You should change the PTC Compact Test theme though, I just changed some of the settings as a "proof of concept" it really doesn't look good as it is.

You realized my dreams!

Very cool.
I know you're on your wedding, but I want to show my enthusiasm!
I've only noticed one bug:
The high/width/size infos had to set to the default by changing the theme.
wk is right, a giant leap for theming.
I have to overwork and prepare so many til it's final.
You initialized a new look for themes, very, very cool!
I don't know how I could pay it back.
There are not enough superlatives, so:
THANKS!

Check the theme.ini

Check the theme.ini, it should revert to default if its not defined in the theme.ini.

possible bug

but if you fill in the default width and height into every theme.ini there´s no problem.
EDIT: hey, that´s funny - copied the new default theme in -> the so called bug stopped, but
when having changed the font name to another one, this will be kept till restart..
so I´ve found the solution:
the menu.exe seems to read the default theme.ini for the standard settings -> I´ve changed the ini under app buttons from FontName=Tahoma to Font=Tahoma and it works.
Seems that the coding for the fonts is Font=.., not FontName=..
-> @ Mr. Elchbau change the theme.ini of the default theme and it should work Smile
EDIT2: I have no experience with copying the mod over PAM 1.1; I use them side by side and can´t see any issues..

;)

I bypass the "official" starter by editing the autorun.inf to open automemscan, in earlier days I set the path to the side by side mod menu folder and started the mod menu directly.
So I have the choice to start PAM 1.1 via the launcher or use the mod on autorun(which I prefer nowadays -> still waiting for the 1.5 features ;)).
EDIT: you´re right, but there should be two solutions
1) create a batfile to launch the patched menue , bat2exe - I know the icon should be different because of the license stuff
2)recompile the mod and change the product/version info (the launcher seems to look for a certain name and discards the mod)
-> I think solution one is the easiest way

A nice way!
Since the 1.1 it's hard to explain why the mod won't start. That's why we had to offer the PaTChed version (the name was a lucky hap).

Supposed to read from the default

Its supposed to read from the default theme.ini if the theme being loaded doesn't have an appropriate entry. This is the way it was originally coded.
I may have forgotten to edit the default theme.ini, I thought I had added appropriate entries for my changes to the default theme.ini but I may have missed one.
When I coded my menu I hard coded most of the defaults just in case the default theme was deleted.
If I have time and its doable with the R3x code I may do that with it as well.

thanks for the clarification

I supposed that from my testing. One thing still, the theme switch does only work with the custom buttons. Is there a way to use it with the custom images, too? I always get an error warning when I use the OnClick/PathToApp code with a custom image, the custom buttons work smoothly, though.

I´d love to have them in mod 34

to be more precise:
MrElchbau was the one who asked for the button code and he has got it Wink
Me, I´d just like to have the code lines for the custom images (though I´m sure MrE does want them, too), please :))
So, we´ll be waiting..., biding our time with modding our themes..., creating nice lines of themes calling each other by the "swap" button like flicking through a theme
album..
But, we can wait...
Enjoy your wedding and honeymoon... Smile

Eject?

Great mod, but in addition to the drive space indicator not filling like it should, where did the eject button go? It is there when using custom themes but not the default one.

Eject!

"Where did the eject button go?" is the wrong question. The fork was happened when the official menu also doesn't have one.
The custom themes use an eject script execute by a custom button, not an internal code.

@1 drive space indicator has to be set to

stretch=1 check the .ini! of the default theme, add the code to your wanted theme.ini
e voila Wink
@2 check the PTC theme folder, take the custom button code for eject, put it into your theme.ini and adjust size and position to your needs, copy ejectscript+ini
as Mr.Elchbau said, R33 hasn´t got a built in eject since it´s a fork of Pam 1.0
eject has come with 1.1
just look into some theme.inis to get a feeling for the code

To save drive space I putted the eject script in the themes folder.
It's a bundle with 4 themes you switch around.
The base theme is MrBar.
Size:

like a sidebar.
Test it!
Be sure you are using R34!

thanx for your email, testing is finished -> suggestions for future development ( R34 ROCKS!)
Your probable dream of a theme selector:
-1 do a basic theme with one switch button like in bar theme
-2 the switch leads to a bar with thumbs of all themes in your selector
-3 clicking on the thumb starts the theme (thanks to custom image pathtoapp code)
-> every selectable theme has a switch button leading to the selector
if I get the time I´ll send you a template by email...

EDIT: check your emails...;)

I <3 R34

Yeah, it rocks. I can't wait until SmithTech declares it at "Ready to release".
I can't find bugs anymore.
But it's like "The fisherman and his wife".
I've got so many wishes furthermore! Some suggestions for the development:
- make it possible to switch themes inside a folder, so you could place eg "MrBar" in a parent folder.
- the possibility to define an (2nd)image where you declares width and high which is shown instead of the square to realize hover-buttons.

But I'm definitively satisfied by the new features of R34.

Perhaps SmithTech Portable Menu is the better Mod. I don't know why I don't focused it yet. Maybe because it's so customizable that I'm afraid of my themes?

I second the wish for a..

relative swap within the theme folder
like default path:
PathToApp="Swaptheme"
configurable to:
PathToApp={Theme}\"Swaptheme"

Its ready I guess

As long as there are no bugs found, its ready.
I figured NeoRame would add a couple new themes to show the new features and post it on the site where the current patched R31 is at.
As for which is the better MOD, depends on what you want. My menu has some features the R3x MOD doesn't and the R3x MOD has some features mine doesn't.

What they have that the other doesn't

R3x:
Custom Buttons/Images (I will be adding this soon)
"Categories"
Wallpaper Swapper (no point in adding this, there is an app in the forums to do it)

SmithTech Portable Menu:
"Start Button"
Theme Rotator/Swapper
Custom Tray Icon
Scroll Bar
Ability to launch apps from another drive letter (used for truecrypt, but will work with any fixed drive letter)

Let's have a look

Hi Mickeyj4j,

1. You have to install the official menu first.
2. Look at http://ptc.kain-planet.de/tutorial.php
There you'll see where to put the files to.
3. Perhaps the file is corrupt by downloading? Is it R31 PaTCed? Try it.

Hope that works.

really

I have been using the original app on my 2gig memory stick. now i got a 20gig portable hard drive. the patch sounds just the ticket for that.

so i need to install that first ok will do. then what so how do i integrate the patch???. the site link you put just says to install an original app (i think that is what it means by PAM = Portable Ppps Menu i guess). so then i install the mod34 zip file right. it puts it into a folder on the drive named PortableAppsMenuMod31_PaTChedV3. then what do i need to move the patch somewhere else for it to work???

Ah now i get it

There is no setup file associated with this patch i am having to do everthing manually. this takes ages and is annoying. as i have been using the orig PA for ages and have everthing installed on my Flash drive i need. Now i have a portable hard drive i weould like to try this out. if you can direct me on how tho set up this properly like i have said above i could really get to like this. so onve again thanks for creating this portable app patch looks good I just need help to set it up and implment it.

please o please create a setup file (instead of the zip version) it would be much better and easier for us all to use it. you are in the process i guess.

Thanks so much .

Yes

An setup file would be very comfortable. But the mod wasn't developed to replace the official menu in further times. It's to find out which features are useful and should be implant to the official menu too. So there's no need to make it simple Wink

Oha! The headline might be confusing you.
There's no patch, the file itselfes is patched to run with the new Startportableapps.exe included in the official 1.1.
The base thing is to replace the PortableAppsMenu.exe in "PortableAppsmenu" with the new PortableAppsMenu.exe you'll find in the zip (like shown on the link, part "PAM-Mod R31").
If there are any further questions, you can find my Email by clicking on my name in this post.
But I'm sure it will work this time.

???

Okay, once again.
-If you have an official PAM 1.1 with apps on your old flashdrive just copy the whole onto the root of your new drive.
-unzip R34 folder to your desktop and then copy it to the new drive side by side with the official PAM folder. -> you have two Menues on your drive.
-For testing purposes create a desktop link to the PAM within the PatchedFolder and start it. All should work as ever -> PTC Theme is the best choice for beginners
-if it does you should know that R34 can´t be started by the official StartPortableApps.exe on the root of the drive. You´ll have to create a .bat file and convert it to an exe, call it e.g. StartMod.exe and refer to it in autorun.inf
For switching back to the official menu just use the official starter
You needn´t copy the patched menu into the official PortableAppsMenu folder - use it side by side -> no sophisticated installing procedure needed
Please notice that the path to themes is different from that in the official menu, this could have produced your initial error...
And please notice to have made a backup of your drive before playing around with the mods, though stable as they are nothing unexspected should occur...;)

really

if i want to run them side by side or say have the orig one handy. how can i get the new one to run all the programs. how do i set that up. ???????.

***for your interest.
i tried to copy the portable apps files from my 2gig onto a mates once as i did not have the setup file handy. it worked fine but did not have an icon in the run screen when plugging in the drive he had to open it up and and execute it manually. it needed to be set up first. when he did that it worked fine.***

i have now set it up to run singly with the mod3x patch. this works fine after i did this. anyway whats the use of runing the old and new side by side. it would be good if i needed to run PA from another drive at same time i guess.

no interference between official and unofficial PAM

if you go back to official PAM -perhaps after upgrade to 1.5- you simply have to redirect the autorun.inf and delete the Mod folder. It´s the simple way if you want your settings of 1.1 to be preserved but of course you can also copy it into the official PAM folder, change the folders directory to set it up. Please note to have copied in the default theme of R34 if you´d like to use the full theming capacity, else you´ll get problems when swapping the theme from refined (changed app buttons, fonts, size)to simple..

seems you succeeded in building the menu

to categorize you can use the mod R34:
- rightclick on any app, chooose category-> add category
- a window appears define the category name and press enter ->
you´ll find the new category in the menu´s app list
- now, rightclick on the app to be categorized, choose category and check the one you have created -> the app will be categorized
It´s somehow selfexplanatory... just play around a bit..

or just use categorizer, an app from the beta forums

I found a bug:
The font size ([MenuButtons];size=12) only take effect when you switching the theme. It will not displayed in the right size when you starts the menu.
