Try using OpenOffice.org Portable, which is already on this site. It's an excellent alternative, and completely free.

It would be very difficult to do.
All Microsoft's big programs make extensive use of the registry and use support files scattered all over the host system.
And MS would probably sue us

Hey, we are all friends here. You don't need to be requesting in strong font or all caps, it looks like you are screaming. And throwing "please" or a string of smilies at the end does not translate into politeness.
You've only been a member for a short time. There's a lot of info in the posts of this site, and there are a lot of excellent apps.
Spend some time reading, and you will most likely answer a lot of your questions without having to ask them.
Try out all the apps, including OpenOffice, and you may be pleasantly surprised at the breadth of applications offered.
Also, the plain truth is, the only apps offered on this site are Open Source.
You will never, never see portable Microsoft software here, or Adobe, or any other commercial closed source applications.

Really? Opera is not open source, yet it's made portable. https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/opera_portable
The comment you are replying to is over 4 years old now. PortableApps has since expanded to allow freeware as long as permission has been granted by the developer.
wow, not open source.. stupid rules i know, but u can always illegally modify the software on your own if you really want to...
The problem is, you have a licensed copy which states you never own the software. I suggest to go the legal route and just go for OpenOffice.org (Portable). Why? Because to the average user it'll do just fine. And the new OOo will read your office documents.
I think having only Open Source (or other legal software) is one of the strong points of this site, not stupid at all. While someone might refer their commercial software, if an Open Source alternative is available and it is also a good application why use illegal commercial software anyway.
There is nothing against using commercial software if you use it legally so if you want that, go buy it.
The 'problem' with Portable versions in that respect is that these might be (to) easy to make a copy of. That would not be okay with the commercial license.
MS anything portable is a no go and there are free and open source alternatives like OpenOffice that are actually better in a sense.

I have used Micro-soft Office to create a CV in both *.doc and *.rtf formats.
I emailed these to prospective employers and agencies.
They used Micro-soft Office and saw something very different - the words were the same, but the page breaks disrupted the paragraphs because their representation had a different number of words per line, and lines per page, plus other idiosyncrasies.
I created Excel spreadsheets with macros under Windows 95.
Along came Windows 98, and some spreadsheets refused to work, and some did work but upon inspection the results were different because the macros were interpreted in a different fashion.
Additionally, Windows 98 Excel had more built-in help than 95, BUT it was wrong. The simple macro help that I did not need may have guided novices, but the trickier macro commands were useless - some commands which I completed with "Help" assistance used the wrong number of arguments, and execution immediately caused an "error", and I then had to go back to what the "Help" produced and tweak the quantity of arguments until it stopped complaining - after which I had to change the order of the arguments to get the right answer.
And for that they expect me to pay them !!!

because the problems you state here are common to all office or word processing software. This so by design. The spreadsheet problems, well we can not expect all spread sheet programs will be compatible with Visicalc (if you know what I am talking abt?), thought basic functions will be similar everywhere.
As far as text processing software is concerned, this is why there are functions to export it as pdf. This kind freezes all formating and the reader will see what you did see.

I have managed to make Microsoft Office 2007 Portable using the Thinstall package. However, there are several issues with this:
- Clip Art, as useless as it is, doesn't work.
- If you don't know what your doing, Thinstall will by default, write values to the Application Data directory. If thinstalled correctly, Office is completely portable, including the registry and settings, which are saved in a folder in the exe's root.
- Although creating and using the portable package is legal under Thinstall's user agreement, it is illegal to distribute it to others, since they don't own the Office license.
If you want tips on how to do this legally, please tell me.
