no internet connection

hello all!

i just downloaded firefox portable and am super excited because i'm on a huge backpacking trip and using tons of unfamiliar browsers and looking up bank accounts and such is a pretty scary thing. this will be the perfect tool!

i'm currently on a friends computer and have downloaded the app. but can't seem to get it to work. the browser opens up but just won't connect to the internet. but i can still surf internet explorer at the same time. what's going on?

i'm on a private home network so there are no firewalls or anything...

thanks, would love some help because i had to indonesia in 2 weeks and would LOVE some privacy while browsing.

network settings

Hi Greg welcome to portable apps!

You proably need to tell firefox how you are expecting to connect to the internet. The control panel for this is found by selecting Tools -> Options -> the advanced tab -> The network tab -> settings button.

You can find the correct settings, if you dont already know them, somewhere in the locally installed Internet explorer, by selecting Tools -> Internet Options -> It will be somewhere in there, I dont have the exact location instructions for that to hand, basically the firefox settings should be made match the IE settings.

Good Luck!

hmm. still not able to get

hmm. still not able to get it to work.

i'm on a PC and using the "guest account". and it just wont work. and i can't exactly find the correct settings. I tried it on my friends "account" on the computer and it works fine there.

I then took my USB to a public computer at a library, but it didn't work there either.

any suggestions?

cheers.

what are the settings ...

that you have set up? Your outgoing, incoming server settings?
Have you used or set up thunderbird before on other machines?

Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
