Physical security/theft prevention (getting a new laptop)

Any suggestions for products or types of products that are good for theft prevention? I'm not looking for something cheap, but I don't exactly have people targeting me either. Theft of opportunity is my biggest threat. I want physical security, not software.

you could always invest in a

you could always invest in a gun, now that the best "physical" security you can have....lol The only thing that comes to mind when you say physical security are those laptops that FBI and COPS have, you know those ones that have like a metal case around them, and to open them you have to have a key. I dont really know how much more secure you would want your computer without accidentally locking yourself out of your computer. If you dont mind me asking, where would you mainly be using this computer at, and what would you be putting on it that you would need to be so "protective" over, I can understand if your gonna put information that can be used to identify you. 3 Bodyguards and a Parakeet?

I think your best call would be to hire three bodyguards and a parakeet. Get some big guys, tough ones. They can walk around with you wherever you go whilst you stay in the center.

As for the parakeet, he plays no valued role, I just like parakeets... or do I?

I know...

You could get the new Sony Vio laptops that lock and require a fingerprint to start the system. My grandma has the finger print model although she doesn't have a clue what the heck it is or does it seems pretty nice. If you can't find a locking laptop like the FBI's as stated above you could rap a bike chain around it. Although I would suggest putting something between the chain and the laptop so it doesn't get scratched.

simple solution

well locking up a laptop as people are suggesting won't prevent it from being stolen.

the best thing to do is buy a laptop backpack. It's handy to carry around and it doesn't look like you have a laptop. I have this one. there's a slot and place to strap in the laptop, plus it's just an awesome backpack all around with padding and a reinforced handle etc.

I don't have any sensitive data on it; I just want to keep it from being stolen.
