TiLP - Ti Linking Program

Essentially, I need a way to send data to my Ti-84+ while I'm at school, and since the standard (read: closed source) TiConnect software is not installed on any of the school computers, I would like to be able to have the open-source alternative, TiLP running from my flash drive. It is open source, under the GNU General Public License (GPL)

(From Sourceforge.net:)

"TiLP (formerly GtkTiLink) can transfer data between Texas Instruments scientific calculators and a computer/workstation. It works with all link cables (parallel, serial, Black/Gray/Silver Link) and it supports all calculators (TI73...92+,V200)."

Also, TiLP is compatible with Windows, Linux, Mac OS-X and FreeBSD.

I concur.

This would be very useful. I almost never touch my TI-84+ SE unless I feel like writing a program or I'm in Chem class. I'd love to be able to jack into a computer at the library with a link cable and make backup copies of updated projects or upload them to my server when I'm finished.

Agreed.

I think this would be a great addition to The Suite, and am disheartened to see that it seems to have been largely ignored.

C'mon People!

I see two rather big

I see two rather big problems:

It will try to download and install gtk+

It will try to install a USB driver and register it for plug&play on Windows.

(The problem is that this level of installation is "administrative" by default.)

Has anyone tried working with those sorts of programs/drivers in a Portable, non-admin environment?

It wouldn't be reasonable to expect those two packages were already installed on the school computers, would it? That would make the task a bit easier.

Maybe, but...

GTK+ maybe (and that's a big maybe), but unless I were in the "math" computer lab (it can be used for anything, but there is always a math professor there to give math help if the lab is open), I wouldn't expect the TI-link driver to be installed. Even then, I wouldn't be surprised to find that it wasn't.

I haven't looked at the source code for TiLP, but the GTK+ for Windows website states on the main page that the GTK+ libraries can be included with software. To me, it seems like that should have been what the TiLP developers did in the first place.

As for the USB driver installation issue, I can't think of a viable solution. Pardon

They are being clever: they

They are being clever: they look for gtk+, and if they don't find it, they use wget, which they do include, to download the package for their installer to run.

The USB driver really is the hard part, I think, especially for a locked down computer. If one could get one of the math teachers with admin privileges to go around and install it on all the computers, it might be possible to work around the rest.

That's just it, though. In

That's just it, though. In high school, a math teacher may have administrative privileges on the computers in his or her lab. However, in a college setting, IT specialists are usually the only ones with administrative privileges. In fact, most of the computers at my school boot from a network share, meaning that the software would have to be installed on the network share by a network administrator with high-level access.

I'll take a look at this as soon as possible (probably tomorrow).

Is there a way to work around this USB Driver issue?

I was hoping that Ryan might have some input/solution (hint hint)

Well...

I'd like to take a look at John's Wireshark Portable that he had, which registers a driver.

Sorry if I'm pulling up the dead but...

The calculators are plug and play in fact they work just like a flash drive in the way they install. You plug in a drive and the first time that the particular drive is plugged into that computer it has to install itself, but it really doesn't leave a trace. So if we allow our flash drives to do it why can't the calculator. And if that really is a problem for the most picky of people then why not use USB deview which is portable to uninstall both the flash drive and the calculator?

Update

Now that Wireshark Portable is available, I was wondering if someone could check that out and see if the technique it uses to install/uninstall a driver could be adapted to work for this app.

I'll consider it Question-

I'll consider it

Question- You want the drivers to be installed portably as well?

Or just the program?

Here's whats going on.

Here's whats going on.
It won't launch from the script.
I believe Digitxp suggested it needs CSLID redirection, so, until PortableApps.nsh is finished, its going no no where, and fast.

And it doesn't appear to be a fault in the launcher, as I don't even get ta GTK error

So, hang tight please!
