xampp installation

downloaded and extracted the xampp files to the root directory of my flash drive...thus i have f:\apache, f:\mod_jk, f:\mysql, etc...i then installed the launcher...when i run the launcher it says that xampp or xampp lite is not installed...what am i doing wrong? it recommends installing the xampp files to the root of the flash drive, but the launcher doesn't find the files....

xampp directory

The xampp zip files have a xampp directory within them. That's what you should extract so in your root you'd have X:\xampp\

no xampp directory

when i open the zip file i have the following folders:
apache
mod_jk
mysql
openssl
php
zlib

and one file: xampp-devel.txt.

i extracted the first time so i'd have f:\apache, f:\mod_jk, etc....then i tried moving all files into an xampp directory - f:\xampp\apache, f:\xampp\mod_jk, etc...still no go...

now i'm using the portableapps suite and i have the xampp launcher as part of my menu options..thus the launcher is at f:\PortableApps\XAMPP\

suggestions?

Wrong Download

You downloaded the wrong file. I've verified that both the XAMPP zip download and the XAMPP 7z self extractor contain a xampp directory. Within that directory are 17 sub-directories and many files. I think you may have downloaded a development package of some sort.
