New in This Release

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Thanks Marko
I'd like to thank Marko for doing the biggest chunk of the work in packaging this. And the community for helping us test out the new languages that made testing and packaging take a little longer than usual.
Thanks John and all testers!
Next task is waiting
The OpenOffice.org 3 Beta 2 will be available in a few days. The Portables for this version will be available too in all supported languages soon.
Beta vs RC
If time is an issue, you can just do English for the Betas. We usually don't do all languages until we get to RC time.
OK, lets see how long it takes :-)
With the next beta I will introduce some changes (as discussed before)
- Only one executable (OpenOfficePortable)
- same Launcher (multilang) for all packages
- new built process with the ability for langpacks (so we can do an English Beta and only langpacks for the other languages)
BTW: Testtool and XSLT Filter are not (no longer)in the default installation of version 3.
Thanks a lot! Portable Apps
Thanks a lot! Portable Apps is the best!
Can't wait for the final 3 version, fully compatible with office 2007. Out before the end of 2008, right?
Issue with OpenOfficePortable.exe launcher
Thanks for the new release! Unfortunately it seems to have a small glitch with the OpenOfficePortable.exe launcher: it is not displayed in the PortableApps Menu 1.1 (the other launchers (writer, impress,...) appear). This was tested with the French release.
Regards.
afaik..
that´s by design (all other launchers refer to it). If you´d like to have it visible you could use categorizer https://portableapps.com/node/8091#comment-46785
BTW @ MarkoMLM good job, but..
are all files in /share/dict/ooo really in need for the German version? I deleted about 60MB
No, they don't ...
and they was removed in the old packages.
The problem is that all dics are included in all versions (in the normal installation), cause there are some issues if You use different languages.
We can remove the additional dics as default but than we should do it in all packages and we have to accept the issues with lang switching.
This issue can be verified ...
with all packages of 2.4.1, but with 2.4 packages too.
In 3 Beta 1 the Launcher is visible.
Would it be possible to
Would it be possible to release a new launcher (or at least tell me what to modify)? I do not like to have several launchers for the same application, it takes to much place in the menu. Instead I prefer to have a single launcher for the whole OOo suite.
two suggestions
1) create a new folder on the launchers` level and put all launchers into it except the hidden one (0penofficeportable + the one for the app you use most (eg writer..) -> when it works you can delete the new folder
2) use categorizer put the whole openofficeportable folder into a new one called eg Ooo, put categorizer beside the Openoffice folder -> when you start the menu and choose the openoffice button a dropdown opens and gives you the full choice
We think about only one Launcher ...
... for OpenOffice.org Portable.
All other Launcher call the real Launcher with parameters. If You don't like/need it, You can delete all Launchers (not OpenOfficePortable.exe!).
Thanks.
Thanks for the update.
