I have a problem with PortableThunderbird + Gpg: There is an Enigmail initialization error that I can't get around.
Here are the steps that I took:
- Downloaded PortableThunderbird + Gpg 1.5.0.2 in zip format.
- Extracted contents to hard drive
- Executed PortableThunderbird.exe
- Gpg prompted for a new account creation. I tried two different things: I cancelled out or I created a new account. Either way, the next steps (and result) are still the same
- Clicked on OpenPGP -> KeyManagement
- Obtained the following error: "Enigmail: Error in initializing Enigmail Service".
All gpg/pgp functions are unusable, most are greyed out and clicking on those that are not result in the same error above.
I should note that if I take a look at OpenPGP -> Preferences the executable path to gpg.exe is correctly set by PortableThunderbird.
Has anybody come across this? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ylan
My understanding, based on what I've heard from John, is that the GPG path should be completely blank, otherwise it won't work correctly. Unless it's changed since then...

I think that you may have misunderstood me: I didn't set the path for gpg, it was set automatically when I started the PortableThunderbird. I was just pointing out that the path that is set by the PT does indeed point to the gpg executable.
I didn't misunderstand you. I'm just restating what I was told by John. If PTB is indeed setting the path by itself, then there may be a bug in the launcher (unless John has changed the "path must be blank" thing since I heard about it). I never said it was your fault.

The 1.5 PTB release added in the ability of the launcher to automatically set the path. Leaving it blank caused issues for a couple users.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Did you update either the Enigmail extension, TB or GPG?

No, I didn't update anything.
I just downloaded PT again (zip), extracted to hard drive, double-clicked on PortableThunderbird.exe, created a new account by following the wizard. When I click on key management, in order to import my gpg keys, I get the "Enigmail: Error in initializing Enigmail service" message windows.
If it is of any help, I am running an old version of PortableThunderbird (1.0.7 as modified by John Urbanek to work with gpg) and that runs without any problems on the same computer and many others.
As of today, the problem is still present in my computer. Has anyone else encountered this same problem?
