Have you tried pulling down the "View" menu and picking "Layout" ???
That might be the first thing to try.

If I am correct, the fix for this is already included into the latest release of Thunderbird Portable so installing the latest version from here should fix it.
If not follow the instructions given here as you have the same problem.

I deleted the offline.manifest file and hat helped me to solve the problem!!
