VLC: automatically launch file

Hi all!
I use VLC Portable mainly to listen to my favorite jazz station (WBGO). Anyways, I'm getting tired of always having to copy the streaming audio link of the station into VLC. Is there a way for the stream to automatically load once I open VLC? That would be very useful.

Thanks in advance for any assistance,
glederfein

Bookmarks?

While I don't know for sure, I would imagine messing around with Settings -> Bookmarks might help you out.

Can anyone comment on this idea??

So here we go

Open Notepad Portable and create a bat.file

Start .\..\..\..\PortableApps\VLCPortable\VLCPortable.exe -- http://wbgo.streamguys.net/listen.pls

Replace the strong part by the address of your favourite stream (for wbgo it should be: http://wbgo.streamguys.net/listen.pls)
Put the bat into the vlc folder next to VlcPortable.exe . If you have the normal PortableApps folder structure it should work. Since PAM doesn´t recognize the bat you have to convert it to an exe by an Bat2exe converter like this one
http://www.f2ko.de/Deutsch/b2e/download.php choose your icon and "invisible application" and put the created exe into your vlcPortable Folder
Refresh the menu icons in PAM Options -> your created exe should appear and OnClick should start your stream; if you use the PAM R34 Mod you can also set your new exe to autostart Wink

errm

a small problem I ´ve found this morning (wondered why the second start was much faster than the first):
vlc started with the bat described above leaves some files in %appdata% called vlcrc and cachedirtag, that seem to be more of general content than of personal, but it should be mentioned - haven´t found a way to avoid them, yet ...

So here we go - Part II
  • open VLC Portable
  • open Settings -> Preferences (Ctrl-S)
  • select Playlist
  • add your favorite stream to "Default stream"

rrright..

this one´s better for one favourite and doesn´t leave anything behind..
I´ve used the bats as "station buttons" at home, have never used them at work, so I wondered why my first start at work this morning has been a lot slower than it was at home -> Vlcportable isn´t waiting till vlc.exe is closed, so the settings are stored in the default %appdata% and the next startup is rather fast..-> not good...
