Application: Xenon File Manager Portable
Category: Utilities
Description: Xenon File Manager is an open source, portable file manager.
This version is a complete rewrite of Xenon in C++/wxWidgets. Fast! Fast! Fast! It is not feature complete. I just wanted to give everybody a preview of what is coming next. The goal is to match the feature set of 1.5 so please don't request any new features unless it is easy to implement or is GUI related. If I have not listed a feature below please tell me. I'm assuming it is OK to host this on the Xenon SF page because it is not a pre release.

it's saying
XenonFileManager.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If I could get my hands on the sources I'll compile it against my compiler and see what happens

I couldn't even get it to open, it crashed ~0.5 seconds after the splash appeared:
windows XP sp 2
exception code 0xc0000005 (Access Violation) http://www.updatexp.com/0xC0000005.html
Also shouldn't you use a dev-test splash not the release splash.
I'll try to compile it myself
Same issue here.
Splash should be fine. It's just an alpha release of an already official app. It's not a development test.
Ok
Its not official or meant for everyday use so I wouldn't use the official Splash screen.

That is odd. It did that for me on an XP machine, but not on vista. I'd bet it is a VC runtime issue.

I'd try a different IDE instead of Visual C++, something like wxDev-C++, I almost got it compiled with that, need to fix some errors in it but it should work with it for the most part.

I'd use Code::Blocks over Dev-C++, as Dev-C++ is no longer maintained

Thats where your wrong Zach, wxDev-C++ is under constant development, it's Dev-C++ the regular version your thinking of

oops...i missed the wx

I am excited. You don't even know.
Wine 1.1.4:
It doesn't even launch.
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (still haven't updated because it is a VM that I almost never use) on admin account:
Default error message at the exact moment the splash appears.
Anyway, I am very excited about the new Xenon. Did you saw my mockup on a new interface on the other post? I am really waiting so I can ruin it on my PC to try it out.
Blue is everything.
Upon launch, it dies. All I get is the splash, and then it fails. I'm in Vista 32bit. I also tried in XP Compatibility mode, but that failed as well.

thanks for new release. it crashed after splash screen. OS:Win XP 32bit
sorry for my english.
Updated. It turns out that during the first call to OnSize controls cannot be resized. I tested this on XP and it ran perfectly.

Still Dies man sorry, but it's the same error that I posted first

I am pretty sure this was mentioned before, but i got this:
XenonFileManager.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Windows XP Home Edition SP2
Yea, Lol.
Na na na, come on!
still crashes but with exception 0xc0000005 this time
I don't know if you noticed, but I posted an update for the icon a few days ago.
New, cleaner and sharper icon
And here's my Oxygen icon theme (With a real installer this time).
I'm an icon freak. o__0

Stupid UPX. Either update from above or run upx -d XenonFileManager.exe

Works now, I'll put it through it's paces now
your friendly neighbourhood moderator Zach Thibeau
And how do i do that?
Na na na, come on!
If you don't know how to use upx then download the new installer from the link in the first post.

Finally, i can download.
This is what i like:
The 'not that bad' stuff thats really not important, cause you said that sorta above:
But you said that it wasn't feature complete so i'm really not worried about it.
Na na na, come on!
This is lookin' really nice, however, I keep getting this one error, particularly when opening a drive letter, and moving up a directory:
Failed to retrieve file times for 'C:\pagefile.sys' (error 32: the process can not access the file because it is being used by another process.)
Details >>
Failed to open 'C:\pagefile.sys' for reading (error 32: the process can not access the file because it is being used by another process.) 06:56:09
Failed to retrieve file times for 'C:\pagefile.sys' (error 32: the process can not access the file because it is being used by another process.) 06:56:09
Everything works perfectly and much faster than 1.5. I do however get the same error when I access my C: drive.
This error only occurs when accessing the root of the C: drive while "show hidden files" is enabled
The developer formerly known as ZGitRDun8705
it only launched for me when installing it on my portableapps.com platform: in a different drive it only showed the splash...But anyway, ¿where is the option for showing the folders panel? Ah, I had to re-read the initial post. Not complete features 8·S
It works like a charm (for an alpha ). I do see a lot of the frontend is yet not done, but it is a lot faster and nicer.
I do notice some alignment problem on Wine 1.1.4, but no (major) graphic problem on Windows XP.
I did not test it a lot. I saw some menus, and basic stuff. But I am really hoping this new version comes out FAST!
BTW, the help browser isn't parsing <a> tags.
Blue is everything.
Very nice! I've quickly looked, and it seems I can't see my folders on the thumbdrive. I've set my home folder to my X:\Documents to bypass the issue, but it's a minor annoyance.
One little thing: if you delete the Data folder, isn't the application supposed to recreate the files from the default settings? Because after I did this, it was repeatedly saying it couldn't find the file assoc.xml.
EDIT: It seems I can access the Documents and PortableApps folder when the "show hidden files" option is enabled.
You are only supposed to delete the content of the data folder. Not the folder itself.

I'll take these into consideration for 2.1. I don't plan on adding many new features to 2.0.
1. I don't know if the wxWidgets control supports this.
2. I'm not sure that would be effective for a file manager...
3. You mean like FTP or WebDav?
4. 90% sure about this one! I hope to have DLL based plugins and user editable scripts.

Also: about 1.5, because it doesn't support web folders I can't access the desktop at school, which the IT guys have rigged to be the default desktop. Photo coming soon.
self.path = path if self.path == None else self.path
yes to #2 please i need a portable webdav client... much thanks if it happens! (and even if it doesn't)
