Portable App Development

I think it will be good to see a file structure system where we could put folders inside the portable apps folder and we could put our apps in them and access them from the portable apps menu. Much like the Windows start menu.

What do you all think about this?

you get them FREE and they are legal

so what you do with all 4 is:
open them with WIN-rar or such a program, put it in your L:\PortableApps (or, you could put in a separate folder with in that folder, as I did like L:\PortableApps\ccleaner the drive letter will vary with computer) then open, and use them.

I have Photoshop on my PortableApps platform and it works great. While it's not the up-to-date version, it works great, and it FREE. Here is the site to get it:

in this post we had a discussion on how to set file type associations permanently on a system, so that a "document.doc" file launches my portable software when I click on it.

In addition to the Unicode plug-in test TAKE 2,
I found out that ${registry::RestoreKey} is not waiting to return till the process of restoring the key is finished. Which has the potential to give random results when a .reg file to be restored is a fair size and/or additional registry handling is being done straight after restoring the .reg file(this is what PAL will do if there is more then one key to back-up/delete)!

I'm using portable applications for some times and now I would like to try create one by myself.
I read forum posts and text on site but I'm not sure how to do it or from where to start.

Can someone show simple step by step process for single .exe program or point me on right direction.
Putty, Process explorer or something similar.

How do I create portable software? I mean like the portableapps.com ones that go into app data and other. Will thinapp do this for me? Or do I need other software?

Due to some problems on specific version(s) of Wine, I've had to re-write registry::_RestorKey from scratch.
So here it is !

Explanation of the test:

1. Gives you the option to use the debug messages(yes) or not (no).
2. If yes, Regedit.exe will be executed to follow the happenings in the registry
3. Then it restores a .reg file to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PA.c[Test]Key
4. It will move this key to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PA.c[Test]Key-Backup
5. It will save the last key to $EXEDIR

Just a quick note to say that I'm working on a portable download manager. Started yesterday and is coming along nicely.

Primarily developing it for me. It's written in C# .NET. I know many people don't like .NET as a portable solution and I understand that. However, it suits me and may be of benefit to others.

For the moment, you can check it out at https://sourceforge.net/projects/portabledm/ and hoping to make maybe two releases a week, maybe more. I intend to make it totally free, including source code once I get out of ugly Alpha.

Imagine you have an app, which has multiple exes, each one for a different function.

Having multiple icons for each one in the main PortableApps.com menu isn't very desirable for many users.

I can imagine 2 solutions for this:

1. Making the main application icon expandable for the extra icons.
   Imagine a structure like this:
