Can I force 64 bit?

Submitted by Lorry on April 14, 2018 - 4:39am

Hiya.

I have 2 versions of Firefox Portable running on this Windows machine and one loads as 64 bit, and the other as 32 bit. Whatever I do to the second one, it always loads as 32 bit. The ini files are the same, I have even (in desperation) tried changing the FirefoxDirectory to App\firefox64 but nope, even though the image shows as firefox64/firefox.exe it's still a 32 bit image.

Is there a way to force it to load up the 64 bit one? An opposite of AlwaysUse32Bit=true maybe?

This is driving me kind of insane because there seems to be no logic at all to it.

[Fixed] FirefoxPortable.exe launcher does not remain running while the Firefox updater runs

When doing an update using Firefox's internal updater running within Firefox Portable, the FirefoxPortable.exe launcher does not properly remain running through the update and the app's close after the update. This can result in some empty directories and registry keys left behind on the local machine.

PortableApps.com Platform users that update via the platform's internal updater and users who manually download each release to update are unaffected by this issue.

Firefox Portable doesn't start - other portable apps work fine

Mysterious phenomenon on a Asus VivoBook S (Windows 10 Pro Version 1709, Build 16299.309, up to date, BIOS up to date): Firefox Portable - no matter which version, no matter which user profile - doesn't start. It pops up briefly and then closes again immediately. Not even a safe start (= with activated shift key) is possible. Permanently installed Firefox works fine, other portable apps - including browsers like Chrome, Opera, Maxthon, Seamonkey, Quipzilla - too. No problems on other laptops (Acer, Toshiba, HP).

Additional Profile folder created in the 'Users' folder causing issues

At first, I thought this was another instance of FF opening up due to the default GUI that opened until I figured out what was happening.

There is a problem with this other 'Profile' folder being created, buried in the 'Users" folder running Win7. It is not a duplicate of the customized folder within the actual program folder, but just a 'default' profile folder that doesn't get updated when the regular profile changes (add ons, etc).
There are 3 folders (only one seems to have data in it) buried in that annoying 'Users' folder in Windows (W7 specifically).

<s>Firefox updating without consent!!!</s> Ffx now Malware!!!

Why is it my Ffx v56.02 keeps updating?
I have v56.02 installed and do NOT want to update to the completely useless newer versions that are unable to use plugins.
This version has been set as my default app and is 'installed' on an internal HDD.

It all started with the new v57 updating the app folder and resetting the toolbars.
Despite NEVER actually updating this version!!!
