Firefox logoMozilla Firefox®, Portable Edition version has been released in English and German. It's the popular Mozilla Firefox web browser bundled with a launcher as a portable app, so you can take your browser, bookmarks, settings and extensions on the go. This new release updates the included Firefox to and improves the launcher and installer, adding new features and making some non-portable extensions work. It's packaged in Format so it can easily integrate with the Suite. And it's open source and completely free.

New In This Release

This release updates the bundled Mozilla Firefox to, fixing some known security issues. The launcher and installer were also updated to add some new features and abilities:

  • Automatic Local Homepage Handling - If you use a homepage (or multiple homepages in tabs) on your portable device, Firefox Portable will automatically update them to work as you move between PCs
  • Improved Paths Handling - The directory paths in your preferences file are now automatically updated, making it easier to select local directories for downloads. This also allows some non-portable extensions to now work with Firefox Portable (FlashGot, some GreaseMonkey customizations, Sage CSS skins, etc).
  • Digital Signatures - The launcher and installer are digitally signed, so you can be sure they're the official releases and haven't been modified.
  • German Release - Starting with, we'll be releasing Firefox Portable in more languages. German is just the first. We'll be posting news and announcements as other languages are added to the lineup. Installer / Format

Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition is packaged in a Installer so it will automatically detect an existing installation when your drive is plugged in. And it's in Format, so it automatically works with the Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition is available for immediate download from the Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition homepage (or get the German Release). Get it today!

As always, questions go in the support forums (after you've checked the support pages and searched for an answer). Support questions posted here are removed.

I "extracted" over existing FFP with no apparent problems.

Tomorrow at work I will try installing fresh and copying over Data directory from FFP

Really like the new splash screen, the USB Drive looks cool!
[Well to tell the truth I hated the old USB Drive (or was it a USB plug?) and anything would have been an improvement Smile ]

Thanks John,

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

I paid good money for that new graphic Smile

And, yeah, in-place upgrades continue to work as always.

I don't like the new splash... mainly cause to me there is too much blank space... but Tim is right in saying that graphic is better then the last.

I see that John chose the red tint that he uses for the website and his version of the Menu. It's a good idea since folks may be themeing or using other Menus, and wouldn't have the same colour scheme as the default. It's a nod to the brand.

Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.

installing this equivalent to telling Firefox to get the update?
Would updating take up more room then reinstalling with the new

Not quite. The release has a new launcher with some new features as well as some snazzy new graphics.

As always, you can install this updated version right over your existing version... even if you've already updated to and it'll work just fine. It's called "in-place upgrades" and every app here supports it.

I once installed Firefox on my USB stick.
Update function works prefectly for it, so now I have Firefox on my SUB stick. And some favourite add-ons (unplug, ietab, mr tech local install, fasterfox, foxmarks) too, which makes it truly best browser in the world.

and I think the new logo is way better that the old one.
I liked the old one, too, but the new one is better! Wink

One thing:
The live bookmark still has Gaim instead of Pidgin as a link. I get redirected but anyway...

Thanks a lot John, for having this release as digital signed German version too.

Perhaps we could do this for more Apps in the future.
We will create the German versions ASAP if the English version are available.

Thanks a lot for this great update! I hope we'll see Dutch as a new language too!

First let me say many thanks. I have switched from a U3 based device to Portableapps and am most impressed. The problem with U3 is that the applications do not seem to be kept up to date - so I was delighted to see that apps like Firefox and Thunderbird are right up there!

However, I have a suggestion that I think will improve the launch platform. As I am experimenting with developing some small (industry specialised) portable apps of my own - I would like to be able to install them in sub folders. This way, I can avoid further cluttering an already crowded application list. Is this possible, or perhaps a future enhancement?

are planne for the next release.

Hi. After Firefox updated to via autoupdater, it seems a file has been left behind on the host. In my user's documents folder > Application Data > Mozilla > Firefox, the file "pluginreg.dat" is left behind. I don't know if this was also the case in earlier versions. Anyways, PortableApps is such a good application.
