It's the popular Mozilla Thunderbird email client bundled with a launcher as a portable app. This release updates Mozilla Thunderbird to and features improved extension portability and signature support. This release also includes Italian, German and French packages in addition to the usual English release. It's packaged in Format so it can easily integrate with the Suite. And it's open source and completely free.

I think the first suggestion would be "upgrade to the latest version". Is 1.5 even supported now?

As for links: It could be that you (or someone) has messed up the association in the operating system between those mail links and what application is supposed to open. (I could be wrong, maybe it is something in Thunderbird.)

You could use "Set program access and defaults" (in XP, don't know what it is called in Vista) to make sure IE or something useful is set to handle those links.

All support for the 1.5 branch of Thunderbird was dropped back in October of this year. You must upgrade for any bug and security fixes.
