OpenOffice.org logoOpenOffice.org Portable version 2.3.1 Revision 2 has been released in English, German, French and Italian. It's the popular OpenOffice.org office suite bundled with a PortableApps.com launcher as a portable app so you can edit your documents, spreadsheets and presentations on the go. This is a small update to the 2.3.1 release last week that fixes a bug where OpenOffice.org Portable would lose some personal setting on launch (tab stops, undo levels, etc). It's available as a full package and as a small update file for those who have already upgraded. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Suite. And it's open source and completely free.

Read on for more details...

Features

OpenOffice.org Portable is a full-featured office suite that's compatible with Microsoft Office, Word Perfect, Lotus and other office applications. It's easy-to-use and feature-rich, performing nearly all of the functions you'd expect in an office suite, but at no cost. Learn more about OpenOffice.org...

New in This Release

This release fixes a bug introduced in OpenOffice.org Portable 2.3.1 where it would lose certain selected options on each launch (tab stops, icon sizes, undo levels, etc). In addition to the full installer, a small update file (under 300KB) is available in all four supported languages for those who are already using 2.3.1.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

OpenOffice.org Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It will automatically upgrade an existing OpenOffice.org Portable installation without affecting your settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Download

OpenOffice.org Portable is available for immediate download from the OpenOffice.org Portable homepage. The English update file is available just below the main download button. You can get the German release from the German homepage and the French and Italian releases from the Localization page. Get it today!

It's like 200K. So it'll stay til a later release.

... this is no reason for a new release.

Meanwhile I add this task (delete the old Source dirs) to the next version of the Optionpack.

What You need is OSS!

Just download the the approbate language from here http://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/2.3.1/OOo_2.3.1_nati..., install it to \OpenOfficePortable\App\openoffice\ , start openoffice, open preferences go to Languagesettings, select the language from from the interface dropdown-menu, click OK and restart openoffice.

A lot more easier way then installing the normal version to pc, installing the portable and copying files from pc to portable cos then you don't even need to install openoffice and then uninstall it if you don't want it on that pc.

Sad this cant read the latest word document file. Blum i tried selecting file type as word document xp and it still doesnt open. Is they're any other portable app that can? Blum and I cool application other wise. Love using portable power point and excel

docx??
Thats the standard format of Word 2007 and Open Office cant open it (as far as I know).

Hi john is it possible for a portable version of JUST writer with the PDF creator tool?
I am trying to conserve space on my 1GB pen and the whole suite is a little big for my liking.

Thank you kindly for your reply.

Because of how tightly interlocked each of the OO.o applications are, creating specified packages really doesn't reduce the size by much.

... but I'll try to aswer Smile

This makes no sense, cause there a no separate Applications in OpenOffice.org (like MSO). Writer is just a launcher and does the same as soffice.exe --writer.

You could delete all the not wanted launchers and the other exes (calc and so on) but this will save only some kb.

In Order to save space on Your Stick You could delete some other stuff like help files and so on. Take a look at : https://portableapps.com/node/10588

Perhaps there will be an OpenOfficePortable Installation with optional components in the future or a 'core installation' without python support, help files an dictionaries. At the moment this (manual deleting of files) is the only quick way to safe space on Your Stick.

And by the way ... please ask questions in the support forum not as post on a news story.
