New in This Release

In this release, Firefox has been updated to 3.0.8 (release notes).

Auto-Update Issue

If you allow Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition to auto-update, some non-personal files will remain on the local PC. This will be addressed in a later release.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Half the time it doesn't load. What's worse, it hangs in such a way it can't be loaded at all without a reboot. I open up Task Manager and it says FirefoxPortable.exe is running but only using 80KB (CPU is 00 FWIW) and the process (or process tree) refuses to be killed.

I can actually re-run it, and I've had up to 3 instances of FirefoxPortable.exe hung before I did the three-finger salute to see what was wrong.

It's the same exact launcher from 3.0.7 (it hasn't even been recompiled) so something else must be up. If it's an issue, please post it in the support forums with the details of your install so we can start looking into it.

I'm sorry, it wasn't the installer. I was out all day and came home to the computer being off. Must have been the storm. Portable Firefox was just the first "casualty" - my computer must have been doing something really important when the power went down because it started doing all sorts of crazy stuff. If you want to remove my previous comment, that'd be alright, since it's not true. And I apologize for posting it without knowing everything that was going on. It's just been one of those days.

always glad to have the latest version :). however, idk if anyone else has noticed this but the "real player" addon that's included in the initial installation is no longer compatable and i cant remove it. so why is it still in there?

That's on your local PC. It's not included. You'd need to uninstall it locally. If you wish to discuss further, please post in the forums not as comments on a news story.

I discovered a problem that if the Portable Firefox 3.08 is started by another application (eg. clicking on URL link in Portable Thunderbird), it will use the default folder of normal Firefox (Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\.......) to store the user profile information, not the one located under the Portable Firefox folder. It will use the Portable Firefox folder only when it is started by clicking on its icon.
