Toucan 2.1.0 Released

Toucan 2.1.0 has been released. Toucan is a tool for advanced users that allows you to sync, backup and secure files on your portable device. This release contains includes a brand new sync engine, bug fixes, additional languages, a new installer, Windows 7 support and a new progress dialog. There is also a change to Backup Differential. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format for easy use from any portable device and integration with the PortableApps.com Suite. And it's open source and completely free.

Features

Toucan is a small utility allowing you to synchronise, backup and secure your data with more options than the built in suite utilities. Its features include:

• Four synchronization modes, copy, update, mirror and equalize.
• Four backup modes, complete, update, incremental and restore, in industry standard zip and 7-zip files
• AES-256 encryption using ccrypt.
• Command line support, allows you to create a batch file for repeated jobs

New In This Release

Toucan 2.1.0 is a major update to Toucan. A brand new Sync engine has been added speeding up many types of Sync and bringing a more reliable preview. There is a new Progress Dialog with much improved visual output and a progress bar. Also visual notification when Toucan has finished running a job has been added. Further more many bugs have been fixed in this release. Finally Japanese and Simplified Chinese translations are now included.

Translations

There are a number of Toucan translations that are missing words and short phrases, if you are willing to help update them they can be seen here. If you wish to translate Toucan to a new language please see here.

Important Note - Differential Backup

In previous version of Toucan the Backup Differential mode supported multiple source folders, there is however a bug in this mode that meant the files were not all backed up into a single archive but spread across as many archives as there were source folders. Because of this it is no longer supported, please ensure that your backups are correct and up to date.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Toucan is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.
