Thanks, this is a great piece of software. Once you got used to it, you'll wonder #1 how you got along without it, #2 why something like it isn't built into Windows itself.

Just for the record, a portable version of Listary is available from the company website, so if you don't use the PortableApps Suite, you're probably better of with that one. http://www.listary.com/download/portable.zip

As always, the PA.c Format has a ton of advantages over zips (which usually aren't fully portable). In addition to being easier to install, easier to upgrade, keeping data in a consistent place and automatically working with the platform, the PAF package portablizes favorites folders (part of the 'pro' version) which will normally break as you move PCs.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Just to be clear, there's no doubt the PA format has many advantages. However, sometimes the functionality offered by "naked" native zips is enough or even preferred for whatever reason. Therefore I felt it's only fair to mention their existence. Smile

Odd bit of software since it seems to work only in the directory that one is presently viewing. i.e. not a desktop search such as "Everything". Unless there are thousands of files in a single folder, it's faster to just scroll right to it.

I've mainly been using Linux lately, so I haven't got a chance to use Listary yet (I never tried it while in DevTest because I misunderstood what it was :p) but there is a similar feature (type in a folder and a box appears as you type which selects the first matching item, use up/down keys or scroll wheel to switch which matching item is selected) built into many Linux distributions, and for years I have wondered why nobody had copied that functionality over to Windows, and now that I know that someone has (and added more awesome functionality too), I know I'll love it (once I get back on a windows machine that is).

There's nothing odd about it - it's one of those programs whose point is to do "one thing well", and working inside a given directory is that thing. You don't need to have thousands of files in a folder for Listary to come into its own, either. A few dozens or less is enough, depending on how complex and/or similar the file names are. Listary also works like a charm on over-crowded desktops.

That being said, Everything is superb, but it serves a different purpose.
