PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Skype Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Comments

It has never happened to me before when upgrading Skype Portable. When I enter the program for the first time after the upgrade, it says my password is wrong and asks for it again. It works fine from then on. It happened in multiple computers/usernames.

Could you try it again on another computer to make sure it keeps working properly? Also could you try a fresh install and see if that works properly on multiple PCs if you get the chance? I'd like to resolve this before more folks download it if it's an issue overall.

I posted revision 2 to fix this issue, it seems related to the new portablization method that didn't work right.

I removed it from the auto-updater due to the issue listed above. It will be restored in a couple hours.

Still working on the fix for this. It looks like it may be a choice between being able to save your password and being able to select a language for Skype manually that differs from Windows' selected ANSI language. Saving passwords will likely win.

The current release has a bug in Skype itself ... and will have an update out later today (Monday April 11th).

Still no update available in the Updater (at Home).

I have installed the new V5.3 on a public computer and managed to change the language from the sign-in screen, no problem.

The bug with language selection is portable-related. When you use the /removable option, it will not store your language. Unfortunately, there are additional bugs without /removable, so we're going to switch back to using it in the final release. Additionally, even when using /removable and /datapath, Skype is now storing dozens more files locally (yet another bug), so I want to ensure the launcher will catch all of them.

UPDATE: Revision 2 has been posted.
