Opera, Portable Edition 29.0.1795.47 has been released. Opera, Portable Edition is a lightweight, customizable browser designed for speed. It's the popular Opera™ web browser packaged as a portable app, so you can take your browser with you and it's in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Platform. This revision fixes an issue where Opera 29 would store settings on the local machine on some PCs. It was caused by a bug in Opera's base portable mode installer. Our apologies for the issue. Upgrading from 12.x to 2x.x will automatically create a legacy install alongside your updated Opera release. It's freeware for personal and business use.

Opera, Portable Edition is packaged with permission from Opera Software ASA. Opera™ is a trademark of Opera Software ASA.

Update automatically or install from the portable app store in the PortableApps.com Platform.

Upgrading from 12.x to 28.x

As you upgrade an existing Opera, Portable Edition 12.x install to the new Opera release, it will automatically create an OperaPortableLegacy12 folder with your current install of Opera as a backup alongside your OperaPortable folder. You can continue using Opera Legacy 12.x if you'd like. It'll even be automatically updated by the platform if the publisher releases another version. Most of your bookmarks should be preserved. Your passwords and cookies may or may not be. You should log into Opera to sync your passwords going forward to ensure they are not lost as you move PCs.

Features

screenshotOpera is a fast and free browser with advanced bookmarking, search, and personalization options.

Note that you must log in to Opera and sync your details to maintain your passwords and certain other data as you move PCs. This is by design of the publisher utilizing the Blink web engine, same as it is with Google Chrome.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Opera, Portable Edition is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Platform including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Opera has now been flagged for extra testing in each release. This is due to a bug in the Opera 29 base app installer where it won't configure it for portable mode even if you've selected portable mode if you already have Opera installed on your local system. And the fact that Opera 26 broke the ability to upgrade from Opera 12 although Opera 27 fixed it again. Due to these recurring bugs with the base app, we've changed the build procedure for Opera Portable and will be performing some extra testing on each release to ensure it continues to work properly. Our apologies for the few day issue with Opera 29 saving files locally on some PCs.

If the previous version was your first install, then it was operating in local mode as if Opera was installed locally. Updating to this will not transfer your profile from local to portable.

This release will work with your Opera Portable profile from any released within the last several years, though.

Well,
It wasn't my first.
I updated previous portable install yet what happened is all my settings were gone and I had to set everything again.

Will it happen with this?

Your settings from Opera 28 and earlier were unaffected by the first Opera 29 release. It was just misconfigured to look at the local Opera profile instead of the portable one. So, your settings for Opera Portable were still sitting in OperaPortable\Data, but it wasn't using them. Upgrading to the Opera 29 Rev 2 fixes that issue and properly uses the portable settings.
