Extensions only working on home computer

Hi

A few weeks back my extensions stopped working on "foreign" (ie, not my own) computers. They just don't appear. This is quite annoying as I am a university lecturer and I show my students how to use many of the extensions, but I now have to switch to the local installation of Firefox because I can't access any of my extensions when running my Firefox Portable away from home. I also lose my spelling dictionaries (I only have access to US English when away from home). Any ideas? The extensions all seem to be installed on my portable hard drive.

No

No, they don't. Most Firefox extensions have nothing at all to do with the registry.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Also, no.

It's all controlled in mimeTypes.rdf. That's how you can integrate portable apps, like TBP, into FFP.

Nope

Blum

Yea, that'd be in the registry. If you wanna open file.html in TPB, then you can use Firefox's mimeTypes.rdf. Smile

Ryan doesn't read well. Blum He's still grade 9, you know.

P.S. If you don't mind, Simeon, out of curiosity, how old are you? (wow, comma happy. :))

What version?

Are you using FFPE 2.0.0.10?

This is very odd. Sounds like a setup issue. I have used my flash or portable hard drive on at least a dozen different computers and have never had this issue. Sounds like your FFPE is not istalled on your drive properly. I would back up, delete, then re-install FFPE 2.0.0.10 (which you should then auto-update to 2.0.0.11). I would also re-install the extensions individually and not copy them back over from your profile.

You can then copy over the pieces of the profile you want to save. Plugins, bookmarks, cookies, signons, etc. If you need help with that then post back and I can guide you through that.

Hmm

Are you sure you are using FirefoxPortable.exe and not App\firefox\firefox.exe?

The only other option (as far as I can see) is that you may have a corrupt extensions.rdf. Try deleting it and then running FFP.

I'm definitely using FirefoxPortable, as all my bookmarks go with me. I'll try your suggestions when I get chance.

Solution

I was also getting errors when trying to install extensions when using other computers. By searching for that problem I found people with the same problem, and the solution was simply to delete extensions.rdf.
