Using portable apps that don't have a PortableApps.com installer

First off, to whomever may concern, you guys are doing a great work, I use this little software all time! Keep it up!

Say I got one of those old applications that don't need installation on a computer, you just unzip to your preferred folder and double-click the executable to run it, and it just works. Is there a way to copy the application folder into my USB drive and add its icon to my PortableApps.com Menu? In other words, install an already portable application to the menu without an installer...

Thanks in advance.

Simple.

Just put it in a folder in the portableapps directory in your drive.

Insert original signature here with Greasemonkey Script.

Yeah, its really easy, just

Yeah, its really easy, just put the app's folder under the PortableApps directory, or whatever directory all of your other apps are in...

example:
[Dir for all apps]
/FirefoxPortable directory
/GIMPPortable directory
/[your app directory]

Also, in the future please use the search feature in the upper right corner of this website, this has been asked several times in the past.

But wait. This one I couldn't find on the forums...

It does work. However, it adds all executables from that program folder, not only the main executable. Can I fix that?

Not in the current version

Not in the current version of the menu, the upcoming release will be able to handle that issue. For now, you can either create a launcher to launch your program, so only the launcher exe will display, or just wait for the next release of the menu.

This has been mentioned several times as well though.

So has this

Also, in the future please use the search feature in the upper right corner of this website, this has been asked several times in the past.

And this has been said many times so what's your point? You could say "welcome to the forums" but no you would rather say that. You should make it your "signature".

Why don't you use the board's Search function and post a link to it's results? It might even be helpful.

I gave him the directions on

I gave him the directions on how to do it...i figured linking to multiple posts restating that could be considered rude/sarcastic. I still gave him the answer. The issue is with people that do not give any help at all, but instead just leave it as

"Use the search"

or something along those lines.

Lets all step back and relax...the original poster solved his issue, he's now aware of the search box, and i don't believe anybody was offended, if i'm wrong, let me know.

By the way, I'm a heavy user

By the way, I'm a heavy user of support forums and I tend to stick to the proper "search first, ask later" practice, because I do know how boring it is to repeat those same top 5 answers *almost* everyone knows over and over for the lazy asses that come around not knowing the pretty obvious (at least obvious for the experienced). This time I have no idea why I forgot to search first (must have been because I was at work, or because this isn't the usual vBulletin forum), but, as I mentioned, even if this has been said several times, I did search for my second question before asking, and couldn't find the answer there. Sure it was my bad, but I did what I could.

Other than that, I understand your feelings, sorry for the inconvenience. The first guy who said I should have searched first actually reminded me of something I had forgotten in the first place, so it was okay. No need for hard feelings.

No hard feelings here, as

No hard feelings here, as long as you weren't offended by my pointing out the search feature, and you were able to get the information you were looking for, everything is fine.

No need to defend yourself, we all have our days, we've all been guilty of not searching, i wasnt trying to criticize, just point out that there is a search feature available. It wasn't an inconvenience at all.

Welcome to PortableApps.com, enjoy searching and learning more Wink

and enjoy using some pretty awesome apps too.
