through some trial and error, I think I got it. I just cut the pidgin file from within pidgin and replaced it with the pidgin file I unzipped.
seems to work and changed the color by using the theme selector within pidgin.
It looks much better.
thanks,
Ed
I'd like to use Portable Pidgin with a gtk-theme, but still don't know how. On the Pidgin developers page I found this FAQ and downloaded a gtk-theme from GNOME Art. I than followed the instructions here (Step 4 to 6), but the theme simply won't show up in the theme selector under
X:\PortableApps\PidginPortable\App\GTK\bin\
Because I couldn't use tar xzvf on my Windows, I tried to uncompress the tar.gz with 7-Zip and use the tar-file, but still couldn't open it with theme selector. Than I renamed both of the files,
X:\PortableApps\PidginPortable\App\GTK\share\themes\Clearlooksorange\gtk-2.0\gtkrc.tar.gz
X:\PortableApps\PidginPortable\App\GTK\share\themes\Clearlooksorange\gtk-2.0\gtkrc.tar
but still had no luck. I think, that's because the file-format (tar and tar.gz) is not correct, but how can I change that? I'm really not much of a tech so please explain it, as if I were a four-year-old... ! :D

right-click on the pidgin icon in your taskbar, there is an option called plugins. In the plugin-list, there is one about gtk themes. Maybe that helps?
And the "tar" or "tar.gz" are archives like "zip" or "rar". You can use 7-Zip to unpack them. Maybe if you put the unpacked file in X:\PortableApps\PidginPortable\App\GTK\share\themes\Clearlooksorange\...?
I haven't tried any of those, but maybe it helps...

Uuuh, I just figured it out. After uncompressing the tar.gz-file I unpacked the tar-file with 7-zip, too... What more can I say - it worked fine.
Thanks, Jan
