virus with the downloads?

Discussion moved here: https://portableapps.com/node/11334

Hi,
maybe somebody can confirm this?
I tried to download several portable apps and my AVGfree (up-to-date) says the files contain a virus (Downloader.Zlob.UAC or something).

The note popped up at least for this files:
firefox (en, de)
vlc

so, no offense and all - you guys do a good job for the windows user. thanks a lot.
but please check the stuff.

AVG Virus

I am getting the same issue, and it is quite annoying. Part of me figures it is incorrect detection. Any thoughts by anyone else? It just happened to me yesterday for the first time and figured it was from the latest def updates.

btw, I am seeing it as - trojan horse downloader.zlob.uaq

did you check

with an online scanner?

Because unless you have confirmation its most likely a false alarm.
I just checked my whole drive and avg didn't find anything.

Almost certainly a false positive

It's the first time I had this problem with AVG, which has been always reliable (and almost unintrusive, apart form the early-morning updates). It's almost certainly a false positive (it happens in the best of families, i. e., in the best antivirus packages). I have double-checked with ClamWin Portable and everything is OK.
My advice is to wait until the next update (tomorrow?) fixes the problem.

The files are infected

The files are infected .
After several years John got fed up with distributing clean, free, top-quality software and decided to start distributing viruses from his own site, using his own
name . Just for the fun of it he also put up a forum so people can bitch about it ..

May I suggest you all direct the complaints to your AV-vendors ..
You should also ask yourselves : If this miracle-software can't recognize a clean program when it sees one, how on earth is it going to handle a real virus ?

Sarcasm

The above post is sarcastic if anyone who might miss it.

RMB,
I know this is frustrating but sarcasm may not be the best way to go right now.
