Ok, so some of these are more important than others, and i'm sure most of you know of these but these open source programs need to be created or if they are already portble, then they need to be packaged as a PortableApps.com app. If you guys want a more complete set of needed portable apps, then many of these apps (which are much more important than a magnifying glass or portable command prompt) need to be added to the suite.
My list includes these 9 apps:
Azureus (Bittorrent client)
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/
Blender (3D Modeling)
http://www.blender.org/
CDex (MP3 Ripping; i think may already be portable)
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
ConvertAll (Great units converter)
http://convertall.bellz.org/index.html
Free Download Manager (awesome dl manager/accelerator; there is also a "Lite" version)
http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/
InfraRecorder (CD Burning software; already has a portable version on their site)
http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/
Inkscape (Vector Graphics; there is already a portable version on sourceforge)
http://www.inkscape.org/
Miro (watch videos from rss based channels; this one's not really that important to me but is used by many)
http://www.getmiro.com/
Scribus (Desktop Publishing; there is already a portable version on sourceforge)
http://www.scribus.net/
IMO the most important ones are Free Download Manager, Inkscape, ConvertAll, Infrarecorder, and Azureus.
CDex (MP3 Ripping; i think may already be portable)
http://www.framakey.org/Portables/PortableCDex
there is already a portable version
Then why are you requesting it?
Vintage!
I'm going to guess he's requesting it because he wants an official build that he knows is of good quality. I think Ryan is working on Scribus.

using CDex for a long time on my thumbdrive and have never noticed anything left behind from it. Just get the .zip from the CDex site and unzip it to you drive.
But it would be nice to have it in PAF.
I can take a look at CDex tonight, it shouldn't be too hard to do since it's mostly portable already, however, check out BonkEnc Portable Development Test. It can also rip CDs and convert audio files.

...but a package for portableapps.com would be cool, anyway.
I use these as portables, yet:
Free Download Manager
InfraRecorder
Inkscape
Scribus
as I said before a lot of these i can already get portable versions of, but i'm not just talking about having them for me; i'm just saying they should be made official PortableApps.com apps to make the current suite of apps on this website better.
4 of these are in beta testing. Scribus, inkscapse, blender, infrarecorder.
I believe Azureus is in beta, but you'd have to search.
Miro has a bug that (I believe) prevents portability, at least for now.
FreedownloadMangaer has been discussed- I think its freeware and this site only supports open source (currently . . .)
CDex and Convertal I don't believe are currently in portable developement- why don't you try?
Too many lonely hearts in the real world
Too many bridges you can burn
Too many tables you can't turn
Don't wanna live my life in the real world
FreeDownloadManager is GPL now I believe but it automaticially takes over Firefox downloads without asking. I didn't understand why it was such a hassle when John was mentioning it but it's the most annoying thing ever. It always tries to take over and starts up when it's not even running. I don't even find it that great.
a launcher for CDex 1.70 (Beta 2) if anyone would like it. I can zip it and upload it.
I'd make a .paf.exe installer for it, but I don't know how.
Look at the sources for a current app (Sumatra or 7-zip would be easiest), and you'll see its pretty easy. Just remember to change the String values to the proper names in the installer.nsi file

from 7-Zip and got it to compile for me. It installs and everything. Only problem is that when the installer starts up, there is a big blank spot in the middle of it. Any idea what thats from? I can post a screenie of it tommorow if needed (as I'm on my way out the door right now).
Not sure what could be causing the big blank. Post that screenshot when you can.

Bah... I think I got it now.. we'll see..
the PortableApps.comInstaller.bmp that I missed. It wasn't where NSIS expected it, so it threw out errors.
On a side note - the errors NSIS throws out are not very informative IMO...
They do lack detail, but they tell you the line number in the script where the issue is.

"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
I think I made portable (PAF.Exe) version of 2 versions of CDex, one with and one without unicode support (for windows 9X) but haven't finished up because I thought someone else had done it and also in anticipation of a changing format specs coming up for PAF. I thought it was better to wait until the next specs are released as they seemed to be coming within a few days or weeks or months back then. (Same with the Wiki On A Stick release for which I needed to autodetect Firefox portable location.)
CDex is cool because it can rip multiple tracks from CD into one mp3, something I was looking for when I wanted to rip my mix CD's
what about ultraVNC or RealVNC?
see this thread https://portableapps.com/node/6520
Thanks alot. Will keep posted. Hopefully won't need regedit to clear IP history with the final release.
PortableApps rules. Thanks again.

P.S. the link is down (2-13-08). The system cannot find the file specified.
It's over here.
Astonsoft's DeepBurner is another not to miss.
Already portable, I think, but would be an awesome extra for PortableApps.com

Or maybe it is not open source?

in fact, even the "free" version is only free for non-commercial use.
Good idea!
