Program: Mumble & Murmur

Status: active maintained
Description:
Mumble is a free and Open Source and cross platform team talk voice chat application with good quality and low latency. It`s easy to use and I did not found any bugs.
Murmur is an easy to set up server for Mumble clients. Both applications are deployed in one package. All communication from client to server are encrypted.
forced to host a server: No, you can also use a free public server.
usb-ready: Almost. Download the installer, install it somewhere, copy it to a folder of your choice (except uninstaller) and uninstall it. Then create the following files inside application folder.
murmur.ini
mumble.ini
.mumble.sqlite
murmur.sqlite
I dunno about registery but it seams to write a temporary file in appdata.
summary: I would like to see this as an portable app hosted here since there is currently not a single one voip application.
If you would like some modifications before it can become a truly portable application you can try making a feature request.
i actually have done a little work on this app. i didn't know whether to keep doing it or not since i didn't know if it was any good or not, having never used it. i'll look at it some more if nobody else wants to do it, but if someone else wants to take it, go for it! just let me know guys
anyone?... i think this app could be a good addition but i honestly don't want to add another app to my list. i was hoping someone would jump on this.
might be interested. How much have you done on it? Would it be easier for me to start at the start again?

i haven't done that much. i extracted all the files and compressed them and i wrote down all the files and registry keys it used, of course that was before i saw anything about what jps said in the main post about creating the files inside the mumble folder. so you'll need to start fresh unless you want a zip of the files from me.
so did you decide to take this one or should i?
I think I might skip on it; I think I'm going to be too busy with other stuff.

Well this is another message just to say that I would be very pleased too to have a portable version of mumble, So if this message could restart the project that would be great.
Thx
bye
Any work going on on this thing? I would be highly interested in a portable version of Mumble!
Nobody interested on jumping on this or at least giving some hinds which work already has been done?
i don't think anyone is working on it and i don't think i still have the files from when i started it way back when and i definitely don't have the free time to do much scripting lately
I'd still love to see this one made portable, but unluckily it seems everyone is satisfied with Ventrilo and Teamspeak so this rarley used but still way better app isn't worked on
If I knew how to do it I'd do it...
Anybody interested in doing this? Seems like we have a few supporters! I think it'd be great for guilds on games because you could setup the client with all the settings and then just have the guildies download the file zipped up, they would unzip it, put in a name, and bam... they're in.
Much simpler than expecting most people to put in IP addresses and all that by themselves... people aren't usually that smart
I agree, that the versatility of the program would suite perfectly to relase "clan editions" of Mumble with a couple of servers and some settings pre-configured, such as turning off "text to speech" by default and - of course - some display adaptation, like a custom background, replacement of the Mumble icon and whatever you can think of, what is already customizable in Mumble.
New version released...

Yeah, this is turning into a very good app for team-oriented verbal comms. I've even seen it used for collaborating on projects.

I would like Mumble to become an official Portable App here! As some people said, if I was competent enough to portabilize this app, I would do it! But I don't understand a lot of things on portable apps, so... we all need some people to portabilize it!
Eric
I'm willing to try portabilizing this; I've never used it before, but it looks useful. Also looks fairly easy to do, based on your description.
Better give me at least a few days, though, as things are insanely busy on my end atm.

here is already a portable version available, needs just to be adapted a bit i think.
maybe it helps

mumble-tower disappeared some time ago,
it does not exist any more.
Mumble would make an excellent addition to the PortableApps suite. Would /really/ like to see it happen.
I might give this a go.

Yes, it is a great idea to have this prgram as portable app.
But will the keys and certificates save in program folder?
I remember it will store anywhere in windows folders. Does it?
The server murmur portable? That's a great idea too.
Does switching it from one pc to an onther easyer and faster and makes backup much easyer.
Hi,
any news on this great pice of open software?
Would be glad to see it in the softwarelist.
see this using the search function of this site? It's out of date, and no longer appears to be supported, but this is the Mumble portion of it. I have not, however, seen the Murmur portion of this portablized. Sorry..
