Java taking 100% CPU...?

This happens in both Windows XP and Vista Home Premium.

When I'm running a tab in Firefox 2.0.1.14 that contains any Java component, the CPU runs up to 100% whenever the tab receives focus or reloads, or when I click on the Java object, such as a widget on my Gcogle home page or a mind map created in FreeMind. This happened in 2.0.1.13 as well, but I don't recall it happening in versions before that. (I only update FF from the PortableApps download, never the automatic update.)

It seems this must be something particular to how I'm running FF with Java because otherwise the forum would be full of similar questions, yet I couldn't find any others.

The JRE that's in Common Files is 1.6.0_03... but I don't know whether it's trying to use that or the local version 1.6.0_05. Here's what About:config contains: http://www.mediafire.com/?sznujwccxcn -- which seems to point to the local version. Is that what FF is using, then, or is about:config not an indicator for portable FF?

If it is using the local JRE instead of the Common Files one, how do I fix it? I don't see a way in to choose or assign a JRE, and from what I understand, Firefox should be checking the directory anyway and should automatically be using what's in Common Files.

Have I misunderstood how to place it in Common Files? The path I have is:
F:\PortableApps\Common Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03

Several points.

Several points.

1. I can't see your image at mediafire.

2. About:config is probably right in which version of java you are using.

3. "from what I understand, Firefox should be checking the directory [Common Files]
Please indicate where you got this understanding from?

From the current FFP support page:
https://portableapps.com/support/firefox_portable

"No Portable Java - Sun's Java VM needs to be installed locally as it makes a slew of registry entries, etc. There is no way to make it portable at present, so you will only be able to use Java-enabled sites on machines that have the Sun Java VM installed locally."

Most recent from John seems to be here:
https://portableapps.com/node/10947#comment-62330

"OpenOffice.org can do this to... Firefox itself can NOT do this"

4. "I believe I still shouldn't be seeing 100% CPU usage on a page with Java applets"
I believe this is not FFP related. You might want to try the Mozilla forums for Firefox or the Sun Java forums.

No? Works fine for me... it's an HTML file so should open right up in your browser. It's just a copy of the Java details from about:config. You do need to click the link to download the file though.

The only place I would get this understanding from... this forum. Here's just one example: Java jre as an portable App I also followed instructions to place the jre folder in Common Files (per discussions in the OpenOffice.org Portable forum), as it was my understanding that this would be a central location for every PortableApp program that requires Java.

But the links you provided are more recent... just not things I had run across in my searches.

I noticed that the portable beta 3.0 version does not seem to have the same problem. But it also does not have the same extensions available. And it crashes. A lot. Sad

Cheers!

Ahhh beta 3

Ahhh beta 3

[side note, mediafire requires js which I generally have disabled unless really required. I was sure about:confiq was correct so didn't need the file]
