can you make the eject button eject the specific flash drive [like when u left click on xp systry eject button] insted of open the eject window [like when u right click on xp systry eject button]?

This has been in since at least 1.1 Beta 4 (the first 1.1 pr which I tried) and is still there in RC2.
If you use a portableapps wallpaper, and close the menu with Alt+F4, it does not reset the background to the original, instead leaving the portableapps_wallpaper set as the background. I've been caught twice, once each on two machines... on Dad's account. Oops. I had to find the old bg image and reset it myself!

John, would it be very complex to create a PAM Launcher program that can be installed to run silently in the background on a PC and when a PAM drive is connected, it detects the presence of the StartPortableApps.exe and automatically runs it for you? I have an external HDD that I use PAM on each and every time I use it and the Autorun usually works pretty well, except for the fact that Windows won't let PAM autorun from a HDD, but at least it shows up in the menu. I also have an old U3 drive that I use from time to time and when I last updated the software the U3 app quit launching upon insertion so after contacting the U3 team, they told me to install the "helper" app that was included in the launchpad. Since I installed that launcher, my U3 menu appears every time I insert my drive now. I was thinking this might be a nice addition for those people who use external HDD's with PAM. I don't know if this is something worth considering but I figured I would mention it b/c I see lots of posts from people with external HDD's and PAM and want it to autorun the menu but XP won't let them.
U3 uses a fake CD drive in its hardware to automaticly run. There is no way to get it to automaticly run off of a USB drive unless it has the specific hardware needed to run.
I know how U3 launches, but U3 also publishes an app that can be installed on a PC (say my notebook at home or my work PC that I use each and every day) that is simply a helper application that runs silently in the background and looks for the insertion of a drive that has a specific file loaded in the root directory. Once it sees that file in the root directory, it automatically runs the "LaunchU3.exe" application to start the U3 launchpad. I am wondering if someone can create a similar "helper" app for PAM. This helper app from U3 is included with all software revisions, but is not installed on the PC unless you request it to be installed. I think that such a "helper" app would be nice for people who use PAM drives on the same computers every day so that when the insert the PAM drive, the launching of the menu will be fully automated instead of having to select it from the list in the Autorun dialog. Granted that U3 does also utilize an ISO image to mount itself as a CD drive and PAM doesn't, I don't see why a small app couldn't be developed to watch for the insertion of a PAM drive and then run the menu launcher for you.
He's asking about a helper app to run on his own PC that will let it aurotun. I have one partially complete and we'll be introducing it later. But we need to ensure that it only launches our stuff so someone with a spyware-laden drive can't pop it into your PC and mess with it.
The fake CD partition is increasingly useless as many system admins are getting smart and disabling the huge security hole that is autorun. It's even disabled by default (as it should be) on Vista so it won't autorun on 13% of the systems you run into in the wild anyway (more since most sysadmins of networks disable autorun in policies).
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
John, if you need someone to beta or alpha test this app when you get it ready, let me know and I will gladly test it out for you. I LOVE PAM but the fact that I have to use the Autorun dialog is a pain and I just happened to remember the helper app that U3 has so I figured I would suggest it, but I should have know that the Great and Powerful Wizard of PAM has already thought of such an app. Thanks again John for all your hard work.
the Alt+[character] key combinations are usually application specific, so pressing ALT+D in Firefox will have a different effect than pressing ALT+D in some other app. It's not a good idea from an overall usability standpoint to globally assign a hotkey that will most likely hijack another application.
So to answer your question, no ALT+D should only work if the PortableApps.com menu is the active window.
I checked out the characters again on this PortableApps.com Platform 1.1 RC2. I'm still having issues getting the Romanian characters to show up correctly. I originally posted in the Localization forum, but never got a response.
The Romanian.locale file is encoded in ANSI, and the correct characters are not rendered properly. In ANSI the characters appear ã (instead of ă), þ (instead of ţ (T-cedilla) which actually should be ț (T-comma)), º (instead of ş (S-cedilla) which also actually should be ș (S-comma)). I changed the file to UTF-8 encoding, used the correct characters, but when I refreshed the menu, it displayed a different set of incorrect character ă (instead of ă), â (instead of â), î (instead of î), È™ (instead of ș (S-comma)), and È›(instead of ț (T-comma)).
Maybe I'm doing this all wrong, I don't know. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I couldn't find a thread for PortableApps.com Platform feature requests. I like to have my Music, Pictures and Videos directories in a different location. Would it be possible to have them variable, through like the settings.ini file or something?
StartPosition=auto, follow Taskbar/SysTray and Auto-hide aware..
Since I never saw any response to this in the 1.1.4 beta topic I'd just like to make sure You, John, didn't miss it there (since the PortableApps' Forums New indicator was broken in the past, and easily could be missed because it was a late and nested/threaded response) and that it is on your list for the future.
Following that link works perfectly for me (SeaMonkey 1.1.8). Maybe that issue has been fixed since you posted your comment? Please let me know if not, and I'll copy and paste it for you.

Hi,
is it possible to do silent install of "PortableApps.com Platform"
I found switch /S but /DESTINATION doesn't work.
Thanks
Should you be able to do ALT+D (without Win+P) to go straight to the documents folder?
Any info on the keyboard shortcuts would be great.

That makes sense. Thanks for the answer.

No, '[added page to link - moderator PP]'. I added the page ?page=2 so the link now works correctly.
