(You'll have to forgive me if anything I say sounds odd, I don't really know very much about computers, let alone programming.)
I think it would be a good idea to make an update option built into all the apps. This would allow you acquire the new version without having to re-download it and re-install it. I realize this option already exists for some apps. I realize also the possibility that this idea is already being used and I am unaware of it and/or someone has already thought of/suggested this. I furthermore realize that many of the apps are built by a wide array of people. Conversely to my idea I realize that if there is a problem with the new version you have to go through the trouble of re-acquiring the old version. -Jaron
- autoupdate is built-in in a lot of apps, but you´d only update the app made portable, not the launcher that is regularly updated by the developers, too.
- autoupdate can confuse your portable and local instances, as known with mozilla apps, a bug but sometimes really anoying
Solution:
the portable apps updater to come (nowadays in alpha status, search the site/beta forum giving you the ability to completely update the stable versions (no developer/beta apps)
So, stay tuned..

new things to work into the launcher that needs to be cleaned up or tweaked. So it seems that the best way to handle that is w/ a new update version from PortableApps. That other updater app should take care of in the near future.
