opera/avg request on portable apps

hello everyone,
Your going to have to excuse my writing (my meds are making me loopy as i type this) but I would like to see and use opera on portable apps please. I started using portable apps a while ago on a 4 gb usb stick and got rid of most of the crap that I dont use that often. But I would like to see Opera on regardless of certain extentions that u can use with firefox. the reason is that I would Like to switch between the two browsers. also avg because I use it on my home pc and I trust it more than clamav. thanks.

Not open source

Hi,

unfortunately, neither Opera or AVG are open source, so neither of them are candidates for inclusion into PortableApps.com.

However, if you search for opera in the box above, you will find several threads that discusss running it from a USB drive.

AVG, on the other hand, actually needs to be installed as an administrator since it runs as a service on the machine. So there aren't even any launcher options for that one, so far as I know.

But welcome to PortableApps, anyway Smile

Check out ...

Here check out here.. I made both opera and opera-usb portable. https://portableapps.com/node/12454
Opera-Usb says it leaves nothing behind, but that is a lie, it leaves stuff in the Temporary folder and it leaves a registry value behind to tell opera-usb where it was last launched from. Right now I recommend using my opera-usb if you are gonna use it on a usb, because it is has a faster startup. If you want to use Opera on your computer or another computer where you can save files to and you dont want to use a usb, then use just Opera. Hope that helps you out and remember if you have problems with either of my launchers, then just leave a comment in my forum.

Just remember to mention that

You should make it clear that it is still "in testing" though,
both edwin and the OP are fairly new members,
so if they're daring or comfortable with beta software they can give you feed back.

Alright..

The one im sure works well and leaves nothing behind is opera-usb, not so sure about just Opera because I only use opera-usb most of the time. Remember though, since Opera and Opera-Usb are freeware not opensource you will have to download the app from their websites that can be found in the forum link I mentioned above. I believe the folder and the correct name of the folder where you have to put all the files are already there. For Opera-Usb download it, it should be a zip folder, then move that zip folder to the App directory, unzip the files there, and since the same folder name is there it will ask for you to overwrite it, say yes and all the neessary files will then be copied into there. Then just launch Opera-UsbPortable.exe after that and everthing should work after that.

portable apps tests don't work

Nathan9222,
I tried to install opera into portable apps and run it and received errors. But I use the usb portable. I just want it as a standard port app so I can download torrents. Thank you everyone for the help
