I'm looking for an option or lightweight extension that will cause any url typed in the address bar to open in a new tab. I used to use Tabbrowser Preferences to accomplish this, but it does not support FFP3. Any ideas?

When you type in the URL, just hold down the ALT key when hitting enter and it will appear in a new tab.

I never knew about that, thanks. Is there a way to make this the default action?
I don't think so. Maybe in about:config if you poke around Google. I'd suggest trying to stick with ALT-Enter for a few days. Then you'll be in the habit of doing it and get your desired behavior in every copy of Firefox you come across without needing to reconfigure it.
