Newsletter

Here's my bi-monthly post on the state of the newsletters Blum

It has been two months since the last newsletter from PortableApps.com and a lot has happened in the meantime. I personally feel that our users have a right to know what has been happening and as such, have taken it upon myself to make an unofficial newsletter for this month. I will gladly continue to create these in the future, as I feel they help me get a summary of what has happened and it also gives the community a quick review of what has happened. If John lets me, I will post these as official newsletters.

I do not feel that this newsletter will be duplicating a current PortableApps.com service, as the current service appears to be irregular and infrequent. For this reason, I do not feel the links should be removed under the self-promotion policy. I have manually placed rel="no-follow" on these links myself to force no-follow (in case the parser breaks or something and it's not automatically added), so as to not possibly benefit from any PageRank effects. If you feel otherwise, feel free to remove the links.

This newsletter is available from http://cubegames.net/development/this_month:2008-09 or in non-formatted HTML from http://cubegames.net/development/this_month:2008-09?do=export_xhtmlbody.

There

is a reason that there has been no new newsletter and that is because the current version of the SimpleNews module has no way of removing the thousands of bounced addresses from the list.

Until this is fixed the sending address will recieve thousands of bounce messages which is a serious nuscience.

Mmm.

I've also offered to John to go through manually and remove each bounced address myself, but I didn't get a response from him on that either. Sad

John, the offer still stands. I could also write a script to do such a thing if you would prefer that.

Further more.

Ideally, each edition would be community edited and produced with both a mailing list and the wiki working hand-in-hand. Each one will be locked as an archive after each month has finished and it is then when the final copy would be sent as a newsletter.
