Hi, when right-clicking a file in windows explorer, chosing "Open with... GIMP", the file won't open and an error occurs. Also when GIMP is already running, same problem.
Is that due to the configuration of MY computer or is that a common problem ?
Thanks for any reply, Simon
This is an educated guess.
Portable GIMP does not have Context (right-click) menu connections, so any context menu actions would normally point to a local install of regular GIMP. Is it possible that the context menu entry is a left-over from a local GIMP install that has since been deleted?
What is the error message?
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
The error messag says:
Window title bar: "gimp-win-remote 3.0.0"
Message: "Error reading registry!"
I've always been using GIMP Portable and I am using the new one now at the same two machines (logged in as admin).
Now: when I quit GIMP Portabel 2.6.1 and start the old one (GIMP2.5.x), the right-clicking works again. Changing back to the new version, it doesn't work any more.
So, I guess there might be a problem with the update version itself... ?
Somehow, you've associated your files with a specific version of GIMP.
Try this:
Right-click>Open with.., and instead of choosing GIMP, choose "Choose Program..." and then browse to the Portable Apps Launcher for 2.6.1. It should work.
The problem is, file associations in the Open With list are peppered throughout the registry. I don't know an easy way to re-direct the association to the right version of GIMP.
Have you thought about trying the Cafe Mod exPresso?

It's a portable file associator that will supersede the Windows reg settings, while it is running.
