How to make a Application Portable ?

Hi, I'm after a portable NNTP news reader, ideally the one from Newsroverc.com

My question is this, since no one has replied to any link, my request now becomes how does one make an application portable?

Eg the tricks of the trade?

I'm sure their must be some way to butcher it, if other applications can get to work on a portable USB stick..

newsrover.com is commercial

Hi,

first of all, newsrover.com is a commercial application, which means that there is no way it is going to be done here currently (or in the near future).

Further, if the licence for newsrover.com includes a phrase such as "you are allowed to install this product on a single machine" which the majority of commercial licences do, then you are in breach of the licence if you install it for portable use even if you have a fully paid up copy which would make it illegal Sad

Now that that is out of the way, if you click on the Development link at the top of every page, it will take you to some documentation on what is involved in portablizing apps yourself. Also, read the developer forums here, there are a lot of very good people sharing a lot of advice.

Finally, as I said in your other thread about this, have you tried Thunderbird Portable? It has pretty good support for NNTP, and is already available right here. I've included the link for you this time Wink
