Transfer of emails from Sandisk U3 to Standard USB drive

We currently use Portable Apps Thunderbird on the Sandisk U3 Cruzer. As Sandisk Cruzer (U3) no longer downloads Skype, and as we now have Mobile broadband USB modems with additional Micro SD storage, we NEED to transfer the U3 Thunderbird email content to the standard USB drive that also uses Portable Apps Thunderbird. HOW IS THIS DONE? Please advise directly to john.farrell@can.nfib.com.au so that we can advise our small business members.
Thank you

I did exactly this a while

I did exactly this a while back with TB 2 (though I've subsequently upgraged to TB 3). My recollection is that the file hierarchy within the U3 installation is much the same as the PortableApps one.

From memory what I did was this:

Install TB to your device running PortableApps. Make sure it's the same version as you have on the U3 stick. Don't run it yet.

On the U3 device you'll find several sub-directories of the form:

System\Apps\[long string]\

Find the one that contains the file thunderbird.u3p

Within that sub-directory you'll find one called "Data" and within that one called Profile. The "Profile" sub-directory is the one you want - copy the whole directory including sub-folders.

Go back to your PortableApps installation and look for:

PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\Data

Within that you'll find a sub-directory called "Profile". Delete it and replace with the one you copied from the U3 stick.

Now run the PortableApps TB. You may have to tweak a few user settings, but your email archive should be there, intact.

Regards

Nick

U3 to USB transfer

Thanks Nick; I have just returned to the problem

Although the TB "versions" are different on the U3 and the combination Mobile broadband/micro SD device, the Profile folder transferred OK and TB has started OK from the USB stick that, in my case also serves as a mobile broadband modem; my emails appear to be there.

Regards - John
