I looked on the Keepass Website and found this:
By 'File' -> 'Export', KeePass 2.x can also export data to 1.x KDB files. However note that not all 2.x fields are supported by 1.x (i.e. the export is lossy).
So it shouldnt be too hard to export your passwords and then create a new empty database with the portable version and import your data into it.

Thank you for your help
I got it to work and I am now using the portable keepass instead of the kp2. It is been a big help
and why don't you use the native portable Keepass 2 until portableapps manages to include a dedicated version?

because while it may be portable in the sense of leaving nothing behind, you'll find that if .NET isn't installed, it isn't portable in the sense of being able to run it at all.
yeah OK but keepass 1.17 is very outdated, and .net comes pre-installed on Vista and Seven. XP users can install it ... remains if you're out of luck, and you need to run keepass on a system that belongs to someone who doesn't like .net...
That is completely bogus! 1.x and 2.x are separate branches, 2.x is not a newer version of 1.x, they are completely separate versions, both still actively and independently developed.
2.x allows them to add other features more easily they claim because of using .net but they also state that if 1.x series works for you then stick with it because it's not a dead application.
This page (from the Keepass website) clearly describes the key issues.
I think it's a mistake to use "1.x" and "2.x" because it leads to this kind of confusion. Keepass 2.x should be considered something like "Keepass.Net Edition" not a later edition of 1.x.
1.x is maintained just as 2.x is. There are only a couple features in 2.x not in 1.x. And 2.x kdbx password store is incompatible with the Keepass ports for nearly all other platforms (Android, Palm, etc).
For a portable app, .NET is a complete fail. A majority of the PCs you encounter at university, net cafes, libraries, hotel business centers, etc don't have .NET installed, so you can't use your apps.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Just because someone doesn‘t love you the way you want them to, doesn‘t mean they don‘t love you with all they have.
This is either very profound or total spam. With computer software you have to balance illogical (but valid) emotions of attachment with rational, practical thinking. Using an application solely on the basis that you love it, is not a good enough reason to use it.
In the case of Keepass, you might love version 2.x, but if it potentially doesn't work for you half of the time then you're better off learning to love version 1.x.
Wasn't that a Stephen Stills song?
If you can't be with the one you love, love the 1.x version you're with.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't an Animals song though.
